McOCINESS Saturday Meet Sudden Turns Sport offers any number of striking examples as to how quickly the tide can swing forward or backward unless eternal vigilance and effort are hooked together. In the Fall of 1914 Connie Mack had won six pennants. He had won more pennants and more world championships than any other leader. In view of this success it never occurred to him that it would tak a long time to build up a new machine after wrecking the old one. But the answer is seven successive tail-end teams, the most extended slump or cellar location in baseball history.

The man with the record for the greatest number of successes was soon to be the man with the record for the greatest number of failures. And just at this moment there seems to he no vivid evidence in sight that Connie isn't to make it eight in a row for a rear guard march. rvard-Princeton Game Wee-Ei' Feature I'res J. Fred Byers of the United States Golf AssocUtion says it should be the aim of the folfers not to wake their game too easy. Sonic one should preach the same idea In the A.

C. It was a good move on the part of Coach Zahn of Princeton to cut down the length of his basket-ball court from 87 to 80 feet when he found out that long passes were being intercepted by opponents. A team that uses a court more than 75 feet long has to resort either to a long-passing game to a great extent or the dribble and cut play to advance the ba'l, as it is easier on a large floor to form a five-man defense, and short passing win; not advance the ball quickly enough to get the ball up the floor before the, defense is formed. The dribble-and-cut play Is used by professionals mostly, as college teams emphasize the passing game, and endeavor to swing the five men into the play quickly when they get possession of the ball. This is the right idea, as a pass is much faster than a dribble and does not pull players out of position.

On a floor about 70 feet long the short, fast passing game can be worked to perfection, provided the width of the court is at least 40 feet. The rules say that the amateur court shall not be more than 90 or less than 60 feet In length, and many teams favor the 70-foot court for a speedy game. The professional court is 5 feet long by 35 feet wide. The Original Celtics from New York are one of the pro teams which prefer a short wide court. There is plenty of room at Madison Square Garden to lay out a large court, but this galaxy of stars play their games in a court that is 65 feet long with out-of-bound play on all sides.
