Curtis of 103 Marlboro st are making a short visit to White Sulphur Springs, Va. This week will witness a quiet wedding at the North Shore which has unexpected interest. It is the marriage of Miss Alice Maud Sturgis of 63 Beacon st and "Rockwood," Manchester, to Mr William Haynes-Smith of Bradford-on-Avon, England, which will be solemnized at Emmanuel Church, Manchester, on Thursday, June 19, by Bishop Rhinelander, whose Summer home is at Eastern Point, Gloucester. Miss Sturgis is the second of the four daughters of the late John Hubbard Sturgis and Anne Codman Sturgis, and a sister of the Misses Frances Mabel and Evelyn R.

Sturgis, who make their home together in Boston in the Winter and at Manchester in the Summer. Miss Sturgis' family has long been identified with the Church of the Advent and, as a memorial to their parents, the children of the late Mr and Mrs Sturgis presented to the church the beautiful oaken choir stalls in the chancel, on which are carved the words of an ancient Christian canticle. The late Warden Cod-man of the Church of the Advent, who was succeeded on his death by Mr George P. Gardner as senior warden of the church, was an uncle and their mother's brother. Miss Sturgis' grandfather was the late Russell Sturgis of Boston, who was engaged In trade with the Far East.

She was born In London, while her father and mother were making an extended stay abroad. Mr Haynes-Smlth is a son of the late Sir William Frederick Haynes-Smith, who has been Governor General of the Bahamas and other British possessions. He was born in British Guiana. After their marriage, Mr Haynes-Smith and his bride will make their home at Bradford-on-Avon in Wiltshire, near Bath, Eng. A group of young folks went up to Worcester yesterday from Boston to attend the wedding of Miss Esther Washburn, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles G.

An engagement of local interest that of Miss Catherine Appleton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Benjamin AVard Appleton of Buffalo, to Mr Livingston Fryer, son of Mrs Robert Livingston Fryer, also of Buffalo. Miss Appleton is a granddaughter of the late MaJ Charles A.

Appleton of Boston. Mi-Fryer is a Harvard man, class of 1910. During the war he was a member of the Norton Harjes Ambulance Corps, and afterward was a commissioned liaison officer in the infantry. No date has been set for the wedding. A New York engagement, recently announced, which has interest in Boston, is that of Miss Gabriello Chanler to Mr Porter Ralph Chandler, son of Mrs Porter R.

Chandler of Geneseo, Harvard, '21. Miss Chanler is the youngest of the four daughters of Mr and Mrs Winthrop Chanler of 5th av, New York, and is a sister of Mrs Edward Motley Pickman (Hester Chanler) of Boston.
