W. L. Pe. The price for the half interest wasn't announced, but it was learned that it was in round figures $1,250,000. Ruppert and Huston bought the Yankees in 1915 for $400,000.

Since then they have spent one fortune buy ball players and anothe to build the stadium, but all that cost probably was made in profits from the club in the seasons of 1920, 1921 and 1922, when the club broke all records for attendance. Million for Iron Hat. Consequently, it is generally supposed that CoL Huston came out of baseball after his eight strenuous years with a cool million profit. When he went in, it was with a team down low in the second division, with only one really good player Korer Peckin-rmugh. The club wasn't popular in New York.

It had no playing grounds, being hooked up with a contract to play at the Giants' field. Now the Yankees have proven the most popular ball club in the country, have won the pennant in the last two years and seem on ab. r. ab. r.

Ernest is a shortstop. In the second inning of the game Wally Schang was walked by recruit Hollis Thurston, also from the arid stretches of Utah. Aaron Ward poked a single to right, sending Schang to third. Jumping Up and Down. The weather was uncomfortably chilly and Ernest jumped np and down to keep his blood in circulation.

Everett Scott was at bat. He dusted a fast roller in the direction of the jumping Johnson and it so happened that the ball bounded under the soles of Ernest's shoes as he was on a pronounced ascendancy." Wally rushed for home. In the fifth this same "Deacon" Scott came np to bat again. Ernest had become immobile by this time. "Deacon" crashed a single between the shortstop's limbs, the first of three singles in that inning which resulted in two more runs.

More Johnson Staff. Then in the seventh Mr. Johnson made an erratic throw to first, but the damage was quite negligible. However, more is to be written of the weird and amazing activities of Ernest Johnson on the field of, sport. In the eighth Wally Schang was walked again.

Aaron Ward then went to bat. Aaron swung viciously and the ball chose to scoot in the direction of Ernest, who caught the ball, but spun around twice and sat suddenly upon those joints which-his maker intended he should use for sitting. In such a position he was unable to throw and both runners were safe. A single by Lawton Witt scored Schang. McClellan played at short for Johnson in the ninth.

To Waite Hoyt belongs great credit. With the exception of the sixth inning, when he permitted the bases to be filled on two singles and a base on balls, he pitched admirably. His mates, however, saved him on two other occasions. Now the Yanks have won seven consecutive games and have been victorious in eleven out of twelve games away from home.
