Cameron Captures County Loop Title; Tops Indians, 4 1 Joe Suknaic, popular sandlot star, twirled his final game last evening before entering the Army today, and the former Catholic High athlete made a good job of it as he paced the Cameron A. C. to its third straight victory over the Steelton Indians and with it the Lower Dauphin League cham pionship. The score, 4 1. Suknaic gave up only two hits, both from the bat of Zook, the In dians', rightfielder, and struck out 10 to best Landavatt who was i also stingy with base hits, yield' tag three while issuing three costly walks and hitting two batsmen.

Suknaic exhibited perfect control as he did not issue a free ticket, Cameron tallied in the first when Frank Suknaic walked, stole second, advanced on Wil liams' grounder and then sped home on brother Joe's pinch bunt. The Indians knotted the count in the third when Zook doubled, ad vanced on an error and came home on Cerjanic's roller. Williams single sent two runs across in the fifth as Ladavatt exhibited a streak of wildness during which he hit, two batters Charlie Egersitz accounted for Cameron's final tally in the sixth with a booming double that found a mate on second. Hogan, the Texan, who now gets his mail at Hershey, was under a physician's care Wednesday night and there was doubt he would even start the 72 hole stroke play tourney, but Little Ben. his fever gone and "the shakes out of my system," strode out with a 34 to be one of a dozen to trim par. McSpaden, the gum chewing pro who hadn't won a tournament in more than a year, was six under par going into the final 18 but his tee shot landed in the dough behind a tree, his swing trying to get out hit the tree branches and cost him a stroke and he ended up with a big six on the par four hole. Tigers, Yankees Split 2nd Straight Twin Bill Detroit and New York battled to their' second straight doubleheader split yesterday as the Tigers survived a 14 5 rout in the opener to bounce back with a 5 2 decision on Les Mueller's three hitter. It took a closing rally against Bill Zuber's "sinkerball" to cash Mueller's neat effort with Roy Cullenbine's seventeenth homer with a man on, giving the drive its impetus. Two homers by Catcher Aaron Robinson and one each by Bud Metheny and Charley Keller, who had four hits, submerged the leaders in the first tilt in which four Detroit throwers walked fifteen men and hit two batsmen, Boston almost eliminated Cleve land from any serious pennant consideration with a 9 3 victory, spanking three Tribe pitchers for fifteen hits, while FinKy wooas scattered ten blows along the way. Chicago had to be satisfied with a split in Philadelphia, grabbing the second on Wally Moses' triple 2 1, after losing the first, 6 5, on George Kell's ninth inning sin gle.

Chicago's Cubs ciuDDea tne New York Giants for the third time in a row, hanging up a 6 1 decision behind Hank Borowy. It was the seventh National League win for the former Yankee who was sold to the Bruins in mid season. Pittsburgh found its latent power and slaughtered Brooklyn, 17 5. with Bob Elliott driving home six runs with a single, dou ble and homer. Rookie Howard Fox, of Cincin nati, snapped a personal nine game losing streak by beating the Phillies, 4 1, his first victory since July 6.

Another will appear in tomorrow's Telegraph.) By Ronald Baker Watch the feathers and fur fly tonight when Swatara Township High School's Eagles and Hummelstown High's Bulldogs tangle at Hummelstown in the opening clash in the Lower Susquehanna Conference of the 1945 football season! lhe fireworks should reallv be terrific The Eagles, getting back into the pigskin parade after a lapse of thirteen years, are under the guiding hands of Co coaches Joe Kania and Harold (Zorky) Fox, both former Lebanon Valley College stars, while the Bulldogs' grid chief is none other than Mike Intrieri, Lebanon Valley's former coach whom Kania played under at the school and who played on the same Steelton High team that Fox did. Brother, what a head' on reunion this is going to be! The cagey Mike will really be up against it for both Kania and Fox will be on to most of his tricks! However, Swatara's Eagles go into the fray a decided under doe for they lack even one ex perienced player while Hummelstown has a full team loaded with exoerience.

The Bulldogs have seven regulars oacK irom last season and anotner leuerman xo fill in, besides a group of boys up irom tne reserves. Entire Green Team It has been a mighty tough job for Kania and Fox for they had to start from scratch ana teach the boys the fundamentals before they could go on to the more advanced dope in football. The Eagles are really green and this fact can't be accented too much according to the coaches. It's an entirely different story with Fox and Kania, though, for both have been playing football since they could toddle. For three years Kama starred at Thomas Jefferson High School in New Jersey, a school, incidentally, com prised of some 1600 boys and against that kind of competition you have to be good.

In his senior year he was picked as All State guard. Later he went to St. Benedict's Prep School where he played end for two years. In his second year, he was again chosen All State but this time as an end and as an added honor was elected Captain. From St.

Benedict's, he ma triculated to Lebanon Valley and starred at end in his freshman year under Intrieri. When the the duration and Intrieri went to Hummelstown, he took over the physical ed. department, a job he held until the Swatara offer came through. Zorky Fox is probably better known around here for he is a local boy and was one of Steel ton High's shining lights before going to the Valley where he ter rorized the opposition from his tackle post. Team Average 160 A11 things considered though, the Swatara eleven should aver age a good 160 pounds and a few games under its belt, the Eagles may do quite a great deal of surprising.

At the wings, Ed Brunner. a speedster at 160, appears to have the inside track for the one post while Bill Buharich, who weighs 150, and Walt Webster, a trim 155 pounder, are still giving each other trouble for the other spot. Andy Szeinc, a big beefy lad who smacks the scales at 180, is in at the one guard slot while Earl Henshaw, 150, and Joe Mizell, 152, are racing each other for the vacant position. At tackles are Lonny Hochaday, 200, and Butch orney, 170, but Bob Lebo, a lad who scales 154, may oust them if they let up on the pressure. The pivot post is held by Nick Shu mon, a hard hitting 152 pounder.

In the backfield, the Eagles are blessed with what looks like a potential champion according to Kania and Fox in the person of hard charging Bob Plesic, a bun dle of dynamite who tips the scales at an even 160 and who seems to be a good triple threat bet. Dan 150, Frank Ro treine, 145, Leonard Shibe, 140, Abe Duman, 135, and Dave Stepp, 140, are still in the running for the remaining backfield slots for the first string is still not a concrete reality. Regardless of all handicaps, though, when the whistle blows tonight signifying the start of the game, Swatara will have a com bmation on the field that any school would be proud of for the Eagles are only too well known for their athletic ability in the other sports and they will prob ably see to it that football isn't going to be an exception. Give 'em everything you got, Eagles! Swatara's schedule follows: September 7 xHummelstown, away (night). September 14 Mechanicsburg, away (night).
