P. Aardrup 323 North Second Street MAIN STORE LANCASTER, PA. MVISTGLHME HOOVER CABINET Secretary of Labor Not Yet Certain of His Political Plans Philadelphia, Jan. ll. "If I decided to become a candidate for the governorship, it will be because I believe I can be nominated, and elected," Secretary of Labor James J.

Davis was quoted here as saying, before leaving to day for Secretary Davis said a report from Washington that he would remain in 1 the cabinet for the full term because the outlook for any gubernatorial aspirations was discouraging was "absolutely unwarranted." "I have not talked with W. L. Mellon about running for governor, nor with Governor Fisher, State Chairman Martin, Senator Grundy or Mr. Vare," he added. "If I go into the fight 111 go straight to the people of Pennsylvania." Ut.

Davis indicated that he did not expect to remain in the. cabinet beyond next January. To Gauge Situation "I'll be sure that the people as a whole will want my type as a governor before I take the plunge," the Secretary was quoted. "If they want the fellow who wears a long tailed coat, a plug hat, who has a moustache trained at high angles and twirls a cane, then I'm not the type," he said. Switching to the political situ ation ins Pennsylvania, Secretary Davis said, "it is almost unbeliev able to think that a group of politicians in this State have an un written law to the effect that a man who is allied with the labor cause, or who belongs to a trade union, cannot be elected to the governorship.

It is fortunate, however, that many, many thousands of citizens in all parts of the State do not agree with them." Paralyzed by Stroke Middletown, Jan. 11.. J. B.
