PAOB TW9 BLYTHEYlLLf (ARK.) COURIER MEWS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1955 Louis Wolfson Moves Montgomery-Ward Campaign to Chicago CHICAGO (AP) Louis Wolfson today brought his campaign for control of Montgomery Ward Co. to the big mail order firm's home base. He planned to meet late today with Ward's Midwestern stockholders. Wolfson, New York; and Florida industrialist-financier, wants their votes for his slate at the election of Ward's directors next month. He has held similar meetings with stockholders of other areas in a nationwide tour.

At a news conference yesterday, he said present directors of the company "have certainly neglected their duties and responsibilities to the stockholders." "Certain people who are exploit- Ing Sewell Avery, Ward chairman, should examine their conscience," he said. Followed By Detectives Asked what he meant by "exploiting Avery," he said, "I can't think that a man of Mr. Avery's Integrity would stoop to some of the things which have been done." Among other things, Wolfson said, he is being shadowed by private detectives. He said he believes big business has put pressure on some of his supporters to withdraw from the Ward's fight. One Wolfson supporter, E.

W. Endter, said R. G. Follls, president of Standard Oil Co. of California, told him to get off Wolfson's slate of directors.

As a result. Endter said, he resigned as president of California Oil a subsidiary of Standard Oil of California. Endter said "evidently immediate and heavy pressure was put on Standard Oil of California" to get him out of the Ward situation, adding: "Obviously the leverage was economic reprisal on Standard Oil of California." At San Francisco, a spokesman for Standard Oil of California categorically denied that outside pressure on the company had anything to do with Endter's resignation. Another Wollson associate, former Notre Dame Football Coach Frank Leahy, said at the news conference that "several men in the business world told me to get out of anything controversial." In advance of Wolfson's meeting with stockholders today, the Ward management ran large advertisements in all Chicago newspapers, asking Wolfson several questions. The questions included: Will you reveal the interests, above the owners of the 200 shares you have disclosed, which are backing in your effort to control Ward's? Would you consider it an honest trusteeship on the part of Ward's management if it were to use the cash assets of the company to buy control of New York, Shipbuilding Corp.

and Devoe Reynolds? (These are companies headed by Wolfson and which have bought some Ward stock.) How much are you and your family and associates profiting personally from the various exchanges now proposed by Merrill-Chapman Scott? (This is a Wolfson company which has proposed an exchange of stock with New York Shipbuilding.) Will you supply stockholders with a complete breakdown of all sales, Insurance premiums and other business or financial transactions through which you, your family or your personally owned companies have profited since Jan. 1, 1953, by dealings with publicly owned companies dominated by you? POWER IN A SMALL PACKACE-The Mighty Mite, small enough to be airlifted by helicopter, and tough enough to drive through knee-deep mud, is expected to aid our combat military forces. It Is considerably lighter than the Jeep, has four-wheel drive and can supposedly do 57 mph. Because of its balance, it can be driven on three wheels or on a flat tire without damage, according to the Detroit, manufacturer. Mighty Mite can carry a 500-pound payload while towing another 1000 over a rough terrain.
