Ben Vereen on verge of success on TV By DAN LEWIS Ben Vereen is on the verge of becoming one of those overnight successes-after 10 long and hard years on the boards Vereen is a Broadway product, who won a Tony Award for best actor in a musical, "Pippin," two seasons ago. The snow that first brought him to wide public attention, "Pippin," is still on Broadway, and Vereen, in fact, can still be seen in the TV commercials plugging the snow.

But Ben has long since departed "Pippin" and is en route to big and better things in his career. Latest stop is a summer-replacement variety hour on television which will be launched Thursday night, from 7 to 8. Vereen takes over for four weeks, following a similar engagement.
