Villi, ONT GLASGOW, SV'AND 4 HH 'r' HARRISBURG TELEGRAPH MARCH 28, 1940 19 QOTOA 4 4 IUJU THURSDAY EVENING COW RNCE ADDS MEMBER from other sections of the represented country. During this coming baseball sea son this will be especially true. Head Baseball Coach Fred Kuhn has revealed that he is relying on several Har risburg boys to fill some of the open positions on his coming squad. Coach Kuhn had also said that hard hitting boys will be hard to find in the new crop of material.

Among the most prominent is Pat Boas, of North Second street. Pat is a fine fielder and a heavy hitter. Coach Kuhn's hopes for a second base manlie in Bennv Burns, who was a J. V. man last year.

Benny is a comparatively weak hitter. Jack Warden, son of the popular president of the Harrisburg Senators, has shown great promise on the diamond and it would not be surprising to see him earn a regular berth in the near future. Of the numerous Harrisburg boys taking part in Mercersburg sports Jack Seltzer is the most outstanding as ac all around athlete. Jack can boast two minor varsity sport letters, for soccer. Last season he was a member of the J.

V. baseball team. For three seasons he has been out for varsity wrestling, and this year in three meets he wrestled the 136 pound class. This year he will be a candidate for Coach Kuhn's outfield. In looking over the more distant localities around Harrisburg we cannot neglect Dave Lockart, of Myerstown.

For three years Dave was a letterman in baseball at his high school, holding the position behind the plate. He is consistent in all respects hitting and fielding. Last but far from least is Charlie Kieth, of Carlisle. Last season, in his first year of organized ball, Charlie filled a varsity uniform at the Academy. He played first base but failed to earn a letter.

The Carlisle lad is one of Kuhn's few varsity squad members returning, and Kieth is expected to show some real class this year. Kieth should lessen Kuhn's scoring worries to a certain extent, as Charlie is a fairly consistent hitter. With boys as these representing Harrisburg in the Mercersburg sports there should be an aroused interest by the time the annual baseball game of Harrisburg Academy yersus Mercersburg Academy rolls around. delphia, decisioned Frankie Stern, 158, Lancaster, four rounds; and Jack Cozi, 117, Philadelphia, defeated Meno Riley, 1134, Lancaster, by a technical kayo in the second round. Jjandis, in an unprecedented action since be coming commissioner of baseball yesterday settled the contract dis pute between the Brooklyn Dodg ers and Outfielder Lindsay Deal, by establishing the amount of sal ary to be paid the player by the tsrooKlyn club. xne salary was iixea at a con ference between Landis and Deal in Belleair. The salary was satis factory to the player and the deci sion of the commissioner must be accepted by the Dodgers. Larry MacPhail, president of the Dodgers, was not present. The Dodgers purchased Deal last year from Montreal and he reported at Ebbets Field late in the season.

The Dodgers at tempted to return the outfielder to the minor league club.
