The worry clinic The Mercury, Pottstown, Pa Wednesday, October 26,1977 27 Keeping loaded weapon is gunning for trouble By Dr GEORGE CRANE Tell all your kiddies this true case about Jimmy and Rita. And be doubly careful to keep your household guns unloaded! For preschool youngsters are superb detectives. Jim my aged 7, was playing in the backyard of Rita, who was a 2nd grade classmate. Rita found a revolver in the grass so she pointed it at Jimmy, as per many TV crime shows she had witnessed up your hands or she ordered. But Jimmy failed to do so and Rita pulled the trigger.

Alas, the gun was loaded and Jimmy fell to the ground, shot through the heart. Rita realize at first that her playmate was dead but thought he was just play-acting. When she drew nearer and saw all the blood on his shirt, she then was horrified and called her mother. Later, her daddy explained that while he and another man were papering the bedroom, he had laid the revolver on the windowsill and then forgot about it. LOOK AHEAD In this age of zooming crime, where human "mad have little aversion to shooting anybody even to steal a dime, millions of householders have guns to protect their families.

Our U. S. Constitution explicitly defends citizens in their right to have such weapons But all who have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews or any visiting kiddies, should, beware about leaving LOADED guns where youngsters can find them! For preschool kiddies can still point a loaded revolver at their clasmates, just in fun. and then pull the trigger! So NEVER leave cartridges or shotgun shells in the guns you have in your house! Hide the ammunition where it is handy but put it in the guns! Even then, you must exercise usual care, for inquisitive kiddies like to explore the homes where they may be visiting. Bo told me when he was only 4 years old, you know what I found under vour When I shook my head, he added: have a shotgun lying on the floor under your side of the I acknowledged, it loaded.

And you should NEVER point any gun at a playmate and pull the trigger. you never know when a strange gun may be Bo seemed to agree with my stern advice. he replied, know where you hide them. For I found are a good I Pottstown Memorial Medical Center praised him, though I was surprised at his information, never tell anybody else and don't let your little brother know where they are. Keep it a secret.

he nonchalantly promised. But you can see how easily accidents can occur, even among adults who don't know how to handle firearms!
