By WILLIAM REINECKE Mercury Staff Writer The supervisors of South Coventry balked at an invitation Monday evening to rent a room in the home of a legendary lover of Benjamin Franklin. Supervisor Richard Nosley shied away from the rental proposal of the historical society that owns Coventry House, the home of early American iron master, Robert Grace. The French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust Inc. is considering renting the home in Coventryville to the supervisors for $1,000 a year.

The supervisors now meet in a school building of the Owen J. Roberts district. The president of the historical society, Eleanor, wife of Rep. Sam Morris, said opening the iron home to a government body would be higher than keeping the home as a museum. According to unofficial history, Benjamin Franklin tested his first stove in the home, formerly known as Oakley, while Robert Grace was still alive.

After death, Franklin grew close to the widow and visited the home. A proper woman. Mrs. Grace had old Ben sleep at an inn down the road. 19408-539-9354 Raymond S. Elliott THE OTHER DAY A group of men from eral underdeveloped countries were being shown through one of our modern factories. They watched with their mouths open as a piece of sheet steel was fed into a machine, stamped into shape, holes punched, and made into a finished product in the one operation. Suddenly a wild argument broke out among them. The American guide rushed up, anxiously asked the interpreter.

First Federal Savings Loan ASSOCIATION OF POTTSTOWN Hiah Hanover Pottstown Chilly weather falls on area A blustery fall day brought a chill to area residents Monday, although rain stayed away. Winds caused autumn leaves to flutter to the ground, and heavy gray clouds to whip across the sky, with only intermittent periods of sunshine. Temperatures stayed in the 50s all day, since Canadian air was moving into the area. As a result shoppers heading for the outdoors found hats and coats to be convenient, and an extra blanket at night was a welcome boon for sleepers.

Nesley now keeps township trucks and equipment on his lot, but his term expires this year.

Supervisor Richard Whitlock called the suggestion a conflict of interest, since the land is being brokered by Kenneth Styer, a candidate for seat. Mrs. Morris, whose husband keeps an office at the iron estate, said she would welcome the supervisors at Coventry House to cement relations between her society and the township. She was unsure of the $1,000 yearly rental, because it is unclear how much space the supervisors would need, but in any case, the rental would be she said. The supervisors tabled the matter.
