Ochoa, 12, of 805 West Missouri Street, were drowned Wednesday afternoon in a small reservoir well up on the side of Mount Cristo Rey. There were no witnesses to the tragedy. A coroner's jury, convened at the scene in accordance with New Mexico law, returned a verdict of accidental death and unofficially theorized that probably one of the boys had met death in trying to save the other. The reservoir is about 150 feet long. It is formed by a dam atfout 40 feet long, built across the mouth of a canyon on the mountain side.

It was constructed to store water for work on the road leading up the mountain and for the statue project on the crest. The water is about eight feet deep at the dam, but the bodies were found in shallower water. Sgt Douglas Gray of the County Highway Patrol said that one body was in four feet of water, the other in two feet. The return home of two riderless burros first caused alarm for the safety of the boys. Eduardo had been visiting his grandfather, who lives on the mountain and serves watchman for the' construction project.

He and Richard took two of the grandfather's burros and went for a ride. When the burros returned in midafternoon the elderly man was greatly perturbed. With neighbor he began search that eventually located the bodies. A call from the Southwestern Portland Cement plant brought Sergeant Gray, Deputy Sheriff Joe Neely, City Patrolmen Jack Price the drowning. The policemen took an inhalator.

The group worked over the bodies more than two hours, using the machine and manual respiratory methods without success. The Keating boy was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Keating. He also is survived by a brother, Frank, and a sister.
