E. F. Cadwallader, proprietor of the El Paso fruit farm, left for Alamogordo this morning. E. Heineman and wife returned to their home in White Oaks this morning after spending several days in this city.

L. E. Anderson, the big cattleman from Bakersfield, who has been in this city several days, left for his home this morning. W. G.

Jolly and son, of Kerrville, Texas, went to Alamogordo this morning. Mr. Jolly is a carpenter and is thinking of locating in Alamogordo. C. V.

Johnson, of Chihuahua, went to Alamogordo this morning foi the purpose looking at the country adjacent to that city with a view to investing in it. Louis Adams, who was an immigrant inspector at uus place for a few months, left yesterday morning for Nogales on the Arizona border, having been transferred by te government to that place. A BATTALION OF INFANTRY AT FT. BLISS Four Companies of the Eighteenth From the Philippines to Be Stationed Here. Four companies of the Eighteenth United Statss Infantry will soon take up their quarters at Fort Bliss.

The companies are A. B. C. and and are now in San Francisco. They were stationed at Fort Bliss for about five years previous to 1898 when they went to the Philippines.

They have been and stationed at San Francisco for some time. J. commissary sergeant of the United States army, retired and residing in this city, has received a letter from one of his two sons who are with the fourth artillery, and in this manner received the information regarding the coming of the four companies of the Eighteenth infantry. His sons are also coming home soon. Oscar Raik, commissary sergeant at Fort Bliss, has been ordered to the Philippines and will leave in a few days.

He will be succeeded by Commissary Sergeant Kennedy, who is now at Fort Monroe, Va. Murdock Clayton, opposite Texas it Pacific depot. Telephone 394. EL PASO, TEX. I I 111 NOTES FROM FORT STOCKTON. Special to The Herald. FORT STOCivTON, Texas, Oct. This section of Pecos county has been blessed with heaviest and most drenching rain of the season; rain began falling here on Monday night and continued with but little intermission until Wednesday afternoon; all tanks are full and the country is in a fair way to carry stock through the winter in good shape.

Abe Jesson and T. S. Brockman passed through this week with two herds of steers belonging to T. J. McEl- rov they were them to the TX pasture just across the Pecos.

They lost about one hundred head in the pastures near town during the rain. Garland Odom of Sterling county has purchased the pasture on the Pecos belonging to Jim Brien and will move about one thousand head of cattle over to winter. H. Butz and family returned this week from San Marcos where they have been spending a few weeks with relatives. AT THE HOTELS.

TO SELECT NEW PASTOR FOR BAPTIST CHURCH. The pulpit committee of the Baptist church will meet tonight in the church to announce their selection of a new pastor. A full attendance is desired. The members of the Christian church gave their pastor. Rev.

Volney Johnson, an agreeable surprise last night and many useful tokens of esteem were left by his admiring parishioners. Judge A. G. Foster, assistant United States district attorney for this district is in San Antonio on official business. He will probably be absent from his headquarters here for about a week yet.

FREE LECTURE. Hon. Wm. G. Ewing of Chicago, 111., will deliver a lecture on Christian Science next Tuesday evening, November 5th in the club rooms, Masonic block.
