Hittle Wins Skating Award On July 12th George HitUe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hittle of Waco roller skated his way to eligibility of the American Roller Skating champkmships by placing First nace in the sophomore men'ii free style diviskm of the South Central Regxmal champkMiships.

Over 800 contestants from four states, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexkx) and Arkansas competed in various events for 13 days. George, who is 17, competed with young men 15 thru 18yearsokl. Westfest is an annual Czech festival hekl on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weelmid in the small community of West k)cated 17 miles north of Waco on 1-35. The first Westfest was hekl in 1976 and organized to preserve the Czechostovakian heritage of the community and to raise funds for community projects. Additnnal funding from Westfest enabled the city to purchase land and construct a new ballpark and a new community center in oast vears.

Thirty to forty thousand people attend this event each year. Most attendees come from within a 150 mile radius, with Houston 150 miles south of West and Worth 85 miles north. Sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Oixkr of the Sons of Hermann in Texas, the tuition-free School of Dance is for junior members of Hermann Sons who arc age 3 through 17.

Currently, there are 34 Hermann Sons sponsored dancing schools across the sute, and classes normally are scheduled from September through May. Parents may contact Ruth Grube, membership representative of the Waco-Robinson Hermann Sons Lodge No. 4, at (817) 881-1727. Ralph Barker, who is the professknal teacher and coach of the Skatin' Place Art Qub, was presented a trophy by the South Central Championship for teaching the First Place winner.
