The Public Utilities Commission yesterday approved the New- Haven Railroad's petition for discontinuance of all pa-senger service on the West Quincy branch of the Old Colony Railroad and abandonment of the West Quincy, East Milton and Montclair stations.

The commission stated it was sympathetic with the desires of toe public to retain tne rail service, but added: If we do not approve this petition, it may well be a factor forcing the petitioners to effect changes other lines where there is necessity nd.ng, order to reduce expenses. Transportation from the points of abandonment is provided by tne Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway bus service between East Milton and Boston, and West Qumcy and Boston, the commission stated. Commuters at Montclair will be served by bus service to Norfolk Downs, to be added when the rad service is discontinued. The commission described the West Quincy branch as grandchild of the Granite Railroad, the first to be built and operated in the United States The Granite, incorporated 1826, was sold to the Old Colony Sc Newport Railway Company 1870. The latter was consolidated with the Cape Cod Railroad 1372 to form the present Old Colony.

The commission reported there would be a saving of $23,761 annually to the Old Colony by discontinuance of the line. Four trains, two morning and two evening, are now operating over the branch The abandonment is effective Sept 30 Arlington Womans Will Cut Off Son; Estate for Daughter Specifically providing that no part of her estate go to her son, Edward F.
