SCHOOLS By LARRY AMES There's labor unrest on two levels of Interscho-lastlc athletics in Eastern Massachusetts. Swimming officials In Eastern Mass. are threatening to go on strike if they don't receive a $5 a meet pay increase. Swimming officials have been making $20 a meet for the past five years, and have been offered a $2 increase by the swimming negotiating subcommittee of the Massachusetts Interseholastic Athletic games officials committee. Meanwhile, coaches in Westwood are concerned about alleged inequities in the pay scale of some coaches in the system.

A closed negotiating meeting tonight at the Colburn School could determine a future course of action for the coaches. "We've held the line and tried to be nice, but we haven't received a pay increase for five years, and they've offered us $2 a meet." said Bill Wentworth. chairman of the South Suburban Board of Swimming Officials. "The MIAA staff got big raises up to 62 percent this year and we get offered $2. It's unfair." said Wentworth.

Complicating the picture for the Eastern Mass. officials is a tentative three-year agreement reached with the Western Mass. swimming officials. They've agreed to the $2 increase in the first year. Carl Ostrowski, assistant principal at West Springfield High and swimming negotiating subcommittee chairman, said an Eastern settlement is "very close." "We've negotiated in good faith.
