California's population o.f 6,154,000 was 4.74 of the census bureau's 1937 estimate of 129,744,000 for the country, but the internal revenue bureau reminded the public (hat "receipts in various states do not indicate the tax burden of the respective states, since the taxes may be eventually borne by persons in other states."
