The primary concern for commissioners centered on developing the best transportation possible to serve residents and communities in those counties. Some of the goals include developing a comprehensive plan that not only will serve the ill and handicapped residents, but also provide long distance transportation for individuals whose jobs take them out of the county. "It will take about a year to set things up," he said. "We have to lay out a plan on how to do this for each county." According to Modglin, each county board has three weeks to select a trustee to serve on the transit district board who will be responsible for selecting a director capable of securing grants and other funding to meet the needs of the district.

"The board will have its work cut out for it," he said. "It will take help at the state House and Senate levels for it to be successful." By Darwin Campbell The Paducah Sun KARNAK, III. Five southern Illinois counties are on the verge of making history with the development of the first mass transit district in the region. "Everybody is ready to make it happen," said Massac County Commission Chairman Jim Modg-lin. "This will be really good for the five-county area." Earlier this month, county commissioners in Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pulaski and Union counties passed resolutions supporting the establishment of the district.

"We support it," said Alex- ander County Commission Chair- man Andy Clarke. "We are waiting for more information on how to proceed with it."
