Army veteran of World War II, he was the retired coowner of United Furniture Store for 30 years and a member of First Baptist Church. Shelton of Paducah; two grandchildren, Melissa Ditty (Cameron) of Alexandria, and Michael Shepherd (Aprill) of Lexington; and one stepgrandson, Greg McMahon of Morehead. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Kelley Shelton, and one sister, Betty Steinfeld. His parents were Orlando and Marvin Tucker Shelton.

Spore METROPOLIS, Ill. Graveside services for Howard L. Spore, age 87, of Metropolis will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

The Rev. Clyde Livingston will officiate. American Legion Post 306 and Veterans of Foreign Wars will provide military rites. Mr. Spore passed away at 2:20 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Howard L. Spore was born Oct. 6, 1919, the son of Chalon and Alice Spore.

Mr. Spore was a retired electrician working for five years for CIPS and 29 years at Electric Energy Inc. He was a member of Metropolis First Baptist Church. He was a York Rite Mason, having served as Past Master of Metropolis Lodge No. 91 Past High Priest of Metropolitan Lodge No.

101 Royal Arch Masons, and was twice Commander of Commandry No. 41 Knights Templar. He had been a Mason for more than 50 years, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, having spent 34 months overseas and serving in seven major campaigns in North Africa and the European Theater. He is survived by one daughter, Valerie Dorris and husband, Sam, of Metropolis; two stepdaughters, Sandra Dixon and husband, Ron, of Sugar Grove and Linda Weece of Metropolis; one sister, Genevra May of Metropolis; three granddaughters, Carrie Holleran and husband, Jack, of Aurora and Sydney and McKenzie Dorris, both of Metropolis; one greatgranddaughter, Sandra Holleran of Aurora; one niece; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chalon and Alice Day Spore; his wife, Eileen Spore; one brother, Ralph Spore; one half brother, Russell Spore; and three brothers and one sister who died in childhood. A native of Graves County, she was a retired bus driver for the Calloway County school system and was also retired from food service at West View Nursing Home. Mrs. Bowden was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a volunteer at the MurrayCalloway County Senior Citizens Center. Surviving are her husband, Joe Bowden; two daughters, Kathy Canter of Mayfield and Tammy Hall of Almo; two sons, Westley Bowden of Munford, and Tony Bowden of Murray; two sisters, Shirley Buckingham of Mayfield and Brenda Sue Heath of Athens, seven grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Hatfield Little; one daughter, Paula Childers of Metropolis; three sisters; two brothers; two granddaughters, Patricia Childers and Tracy Childers, both of Metropolis; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cook died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at her home. A graduate of Mayfield High School, she attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Waco, Texas, and received a master's degree in music from Murray State University. Mrs.

Cook was former minister of music at First Baptist Church, and directed choirs at First Christian Church, First Methodist Church, the AME Church and Mayfield High School. She served on the boards of the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center in Paducah and the Graves County Needline. Mrs. Cook was a past member of the American Choral Directors Society, and worked with Mayfield's Tree Board and Landmark Trees Program.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, John Cook; one daughter, Betsy Cook of Buckingham, England; one son, Chris Cook of Michigan; and three grandsons, Simon Cook, Justis Cook and Hanno Nash. Besides her son, she is survived by her husband, James Jay Shuck of Cadiz and Anderson; two other sons, Jay Shuck of Vancleve, and John Shuck of Bunkerhill; one brother, Larry Bright of Anderson; two sisters, Grace Key of North Vernon and Shirley Ebbert of Elizabethtown, eight grandchildren; and 10 great -grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two infant children. Her parents were Cecil and Dorothy Bright.

Mr. Hornberger died at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday at Monticello House in Jackson, He was the retired owner of Hornberger Body Shop. Surviving are one son, Bruce Hornberger of Cairo, and four grandchildren, Erin Lee Hornberger of Murray, and Betheny Hornberger, Jonathan Hornberger and Zachary Hornberger, all of Bellingham, Wash. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hornberger.

Henry Conway, 76, of Fredonia died at 1:20 p.m. Thursday at Lourdes hospital in Paducah. Mr. Conway was a retired school bus driver. He was a member of the Frances Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church of Fredonia.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Martin Conway; three sons, Todd Conway of Smiths Grove, and Tim Conway, and Tony Conway, both of Fredonia; two brothers, Joe Conway and Don Conway, both of Fredonia; one sister, Carolyn Riley of Fredonia; and six grandchildren. His parents were William B. Conway and Sara Louise Rice Conway. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Morgan's Funeral Home a of Princeton with the Rev.

Charles Yancy ARLINGTON, Ky. Graveside services for the Rev. Charles L. Yancy, 70, of Evansville, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Arlington Cemetery.

He died Tuesday at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville. He earned his master of divinity degree from Lambuth University. He served as a United Methodist minister for 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Ann Yancy; three daughters, Cheryl Yancy, Rachel Yancy and Elizabeth Yancy; two stepchildren; one brother, Bill Yancy; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His parents were Charles and Marie Pierce Yancy.

Pearl Rainey BENTON, Ky. Graveside services for Pearl Wayne Rainey, 76, of Benton will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill. He died at 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday at Lourdes hospital in Paducah. He was a member of the Teamsters Union in St. Louis. He was a deacon at Black Lane Church in Collinsville. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Rainey; two daughters, Shelia Downing of Benton and Sherry Hicks of Granite City, nine grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren.

SYMSONIA, Ky. Graveside services for Larry Clayton Associated Press CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Six girls at a rural high school were charged with homicide conspiracy after their principal found a list of 300 names and officials discovered online postings suggesting they kill people, authorities said Thursday. School officials said the list, discovered in a classroom trash can, mostly named students and faculty members but also included Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey and the Energizer bunny. Sequatchie County High School Principal Tommy Layne said that he initially considered it a joke, but that authorities then found the ninth-graders' online MySpace pages and postings that included the word "kill." "In general terms, it was like, 'Let's kill these people," Dunlap Police Chief Clint Huth said.

He declined to provide the specific wording on the posting, which has been removed. There was no evidence that the girls had weapons or that an attack had been imminent, Huth said. The girls, ages 14 and 15, were charged with conspiracy to commit criminal homicide late Wednesday and taken to a juvenile facility. Senator criticizes credit card fees Associated Press WASHINGTON Democratic lawmakers challenged credit card executives Thursday over rising late fees and other penalties and marketing practices. The credit card industry and its practices came under scrutiny at a session of the Senate Banking Committee.

Several Democratic members of the panel are proposing legislation to require companies to provide more details to consumers on how long it will take them to pay off their debts if they make minimum monthly payments, and to rein in solicitations of college students. would like to put the credit card industry on notice," said Sen.
