Abram C. Ratshesity, James G. Freeman Albert Geier Jr. Bates and Guild Caucus Delegates All Ready. Met for Eacl Canfliflate in Every Ward Save Tte Unfilled Blank in o.

a by Bates Supporter. What Seems Like a Plan to Split Bates Forces. Kb Opposition to Either of Rivals in Ills Own Ward. The officers of the republican city committee opened and read at the head-quartern yesterday afternoon the nomination panel's to he voted for at the coming republican caucuses. Only a few of the politicians watched the proceedings.

Tho most Interesting thing was the Announcement of the names on the Guild and Hates delegations In the different wards. In every one of the wards except three a ticket for each candidate was filed. In ward 1, where Speaker Hates lias his home, ana In ward 11, where fjen Guild resides, by mutual consent, no opposing- tickets were filed. In ward 8 W. V.

Farr has charge of tho Bates campaign and said be would file a ticket. Instead, however, of putting In a list of delegates heTlled merely an unfilled blank, with no names on it. Just what that act means no one seems to know. Mr Farr himself disappeared before the papers were ope ned. In some of the Wards there are three delegations, two for Hates.

The assumption is that one of these delegations was filed by Mr Hates' 'opponents for the purpose of dividing his strength. In ward 21. the home of ex Mayor Curtis, who is managing the Guild campaign in Boston, a Bates delegation has been filed by ex Representative Athcr-ton. In wards 10 and 12, where the contest between the two candidates is warmest, with the chances apparently In favor of Bates, the delegations were scanned with critical eye. In wards 21 and 25, where the Guild men feel confident of victory, the Hates supporters have liled a strong list of delegates.

In the senatorial district comprising Wards 10. 12 and 18. Senator Innes, who is a candidate for a second term, 1b opposed by ex Alderman X)yar. This contest Is being fought in wards 10 and 12. In the district composed of wards 11.

19 and 2i. Representative Ross and ex Representative Hammond are candidates for the senatorial nomination. The understanding Is that the man who carries ward 25 shall have the nomination. Councilor Davis r-nd Senators Witt. Lot and Maxwell will be returned without opposition.

In the republican wards there are numerous candidates for the bouse. The complete lists follow: WARU ONE. State (favorable to John L. Rates) Wesley A. Gove.

Other Departments Not Up to the Standard. Premiums Awarded for Fine Driviug Horses. ATHOL, Sept 13 The S3d annual fair of the Worcester northwest agricultural society opened today with an ideal cattle show and an attendance of upward of 4000. But the exhibitors in almost every department are far below the fairs of former years, the only class that might be called well filled being the dogs, of which there were between 30 and 40. In the stock yard are about 160 head of cattlo, the principal exhibitors in this department being P.

S. Gale of Petersham with 43 head of guernseys; E. D. Cole of Barro Plains, 36, mostly holsteins; George H. Bowker of Barre, 29 Swiss and Dutch belted, and D.

l' Bigelow of Petersham, 23 Jerseys. There are but four exhibitors of sheep and 18 of swine. There are 138 coops of poultry. The principal features of the hall exhibit were in the fancy work department and the display by the Athol grange, which is the only grange exhibiting, lhe Athol fairs are alwavs a favorite resort for political aspirants, and at the dinner today between 300 and 400 people nad an opportunity or listening to tne two aspirants for the position of lieu tenant governor, Speaker John Bates and Gen Curtis Guild Jr. both of whom disclaimed the distinction of being farmers.

Pres A. F. Tyler Introduced as the first after dinner speaker, Mr Bates, who referred to the evidences of prosperity in the country as shown In the iron and steel Industries, and to tho Dart that airrleulture holds in the great increase In the value of productions of all tne great staples. His remarKs wero wholly of an agricultural turn, and politics were not alluded to. He was followed by Gen Guild, who spoke of the force- which the agricul tural population exerts, not merely on Suoiic opinion, but on legislation, in lassachusetts.

This he regarded as a tribute to the energy of those engaged in agriculture and to tho fairness of those who are not. He paid tribute to the manufacturing and shipping interests of tho state and made reference to tho coming attempt to investigate the subject of abandoned farms by the national department of agriculture. Ho thought that the Massachusetts farmer, driven from one Held, had been quick to adapt himself to new products, and thought more attention to small fields well cultivated would bo better than rought cultivation of larger fields. Other speakers were J. W.

Stock-well, secretary of the state board of agriculture, and E. W. Wood of New ton, the delegate rrom tne state noara. The events of the afternoon on the track and the premiums awarded were as follows: Matched carriage homes First. A.
