Reined by Hall of Famer John Campbell, Armbro Romance set a world record for a 3-year-old filly pacer as well as the fastest mile by a filly or mare of any age when she beat her arch-rival Galleria In an eye-popping 1:49.4 in Sire Stakes action at the Mead-owlands this past Saturday night Leaving from the nine-post, Armbro Romance worked hard to establish early position, slipping in the five-hole just past the opening quarter of :27.2. At that point Campbell made another move, brushing to the front with Armbro Romance.

She was quickly followed by George Brennan and his filly Galleria, who were saddled with the tough second-tier post number 12. As they swooped past the half in :55, it was now Galleria taking the lead, with Armbro Romance sitting the pocket in second. Nothing changed as they blazed to the three-quarter pole in 1:22.3, with Galleria looking to put away the pesky Armbro Romance. But it was not to be, as Armbro Romance exploded out of the pocket and with a couple of tippy-taps from Campbell, the filly crossed the wire in an unreal 1:49.4, with Galleria a well-beaten second. The previous record for the fastest mile by a female pacer was set last year when Mystical Maddy, a 4-year-old mare at the time, popped out a 1:50 mile over the super-fast Red Mile oval.

So just how special is Armbro Romance, only time will tell. But on Saturday night she put on one of the most dazzling displays of power ever seen by a distaff pacer.
