Devilled eggs are a natural main dish for Sunday night sup per, because the cooking can be done ahead of time the day be fore if necessary and the actual "devilling" takes only a jiffy. For the nicest devilled eggs, prevent discoloration of the ring around the yolks by chilling the hard cooked eggs immediately on re from the heat.

This can be done most easily by putting the eggs back into the emptied saucepan and letting cold water run over them for 5 or 10 minutes. Some eggs, with an unusually high sulphur content, tend to form this ring despite precautions, but ordinarily quick chilling will prevent or at least reduce it. Miss Bal lon cautions. Thick hair is usually curly nair, and instead of growing long and sweeping it is apt to curl up at the ends and grow wide at the sides.

To counteract this, the hair must be thinned about once every three weeks but do not let the hairdresser thin it too much or, instead of your hair lying flat and placid, it will curl up tightly and look frizzy. "Styling depends upon the shape of your face, your features and size. If it is becoming, part your hair high on one side, the front of the part starting above the cen ter of the eye. For an interesting eltect slant your part instead of wearing it straight. The natural growth how the waves fall should determine which side you part it on.

As a rule, a center part tor curly hair should be avoided Not only because it is hard for most women to wear, but because it tends to destroy the natural sweep of the hair and results in a corrigated effect. Too low a part is likely to give the head an un balanced appearance by concentrating all the thickness on one side. "And do not wear curly hair too short," the beauty wise painist goes on to advise. "Curly hair ap pears shorter than it is. The longer you leave your hair the heavier it will be, and many small curls and kinks are smoothed out by the weight of it.

On deciding upon the proper length your stat ure and features must be again considered. I wear mine brushed high because I am short and like the effect of greater height. But on whole the longer length is flattering to most younger women as is testified to by the movie girls who stick to shoulder length bobs." So there is some good advice from a curly head. Or she can supply her guests with the "makings" and let them construct their' own sandwiches to suit their individual tastes. Some of the necessary makings are crisp lettuce, sliced ham, sliced or grated cheese, sliced peeled tomatoes, canned meat or fish, crisp freshly broiled bacon, mayonnaise, mustard, and various garnishings parsley, pickles, olives, and radish roses. The variety will depend on the num ber of your guests, for it is not practical to lay out so many foods that they cannot possibly be used up. The method of letting your guests make their own sandwich combinations is particularly good in a fairly large party, if you want to put everyone immediately at ease. But for a small group it will probably be better to do the job yourself, beforehand.

Here are recipes for four of these hearty luncheon sandwiches which are such a simple yet satisfying main course. If you allow two per serv ing, it may be a good plan to have two different kinds. Swiss Ham and Tomato Sandwich 8 slices buttered toast 8 leaves lettuee 8 slices boiled ham 8 slices Swiss cheese 3 medium tomatoes, peeled and sliced 8 slices crisp broiled bacon 2 3' cup Thousand Island dress' ing On each slice of buttered toast, place a crisp lettuce leaf; then a slice of ham, a slice of cheese, and one or two tomato slices (depend ing on size). Top with a slice of broiled bacon, and serve with mayonnaise dressing poured over sandwich or in little paper cups at the side. Serves 4, allowing 2 sandwiches to a serving.

Ham and Banana Sandwich 3 cups ground ham (about Yz pound 1 cup finely diced celery 1 teaspoon finely chopped onion 2 tablespoons prepared mustard 3 medium ripe bananas, mashed or mayonnaise to moisten. 2 tablespoons lemon juice Salt if needed to suit taste 8 slices buttered bread or toast 8 crisp lettuce leaves 1 ripe banana, sliced Maraschino cherries Combine the first 6 ingredients, mixing thoroughly; season to suit taste. On each slice of buttered bread or toast, place a leaf of let tuce. On the lettuce spread a generous amount of the ham salad mixture. Garnish with slices of banana and with pieces of maraschino cherry.

Serves 4, allowing 2 sandwiches to a serving. Ham and Tuna Fish Sandwich 8 slices buttered toast or bread 8 crisp lettuce leaves 8 slices boiled ham Prepared mustard 1 1 lb. tin tuna fish Mayonnaise dressing; Parsley 2 tomatoes, peeled and sliced On each slice of buttered toast, place a lettuce leaf, and on the lettuce a slice of ham. Spread ham very lightly with mustard. Top the ham with 1 or 2 slices of tomato.

Drain tuna and break into large flakes. Divide it among the sandwiches. Garnish with a spoonful mayonnaise and a tiny sprig of parsley. Serve immediately. Serves 4, allowing 2 sandwiches to a serving.

Ham and Cranberry Sandwich 8 slices boiled ham 1 tablespoon bacon drippings 8 slices buttered toast 1 No. 2 tin cranberry sauce, sliced lb. sharp American cheese grated Parsley Sweet pickles Brown the ham slightly in the bacon drippings, in a skillet. Drain ham and place a slice on each slice of buttered toast. On top of ham, place a slice of firm cranberry jelly, and top with a portion of the grated cheese.

Place sandwiches under a broiler to melt and brown the cheese quickly. Serve imme diately, with a garnish of parsley and sweet pickles. Serves 4, allowing 2 sandwiches to a serving. 'Teen Topics By Pegge Parker Kb Send Miss Parker Your Problem Beginner's luck fishing And good luck wishing. We always thought fishing was a he man sport.

That no sweet Sally Ann could bear to put a "wiggly old worm" on the end of a hook. However, there comes to our ears contrary tales of triumph feminine "fish stories" where the big ones didn't get away but were taken home and cooked for dinner! Well, well, we thought. We'll have to investigate the angling art. With no less an expert than the "Outdoors" editor, Mike Seaman, sharing the next door desk and typewriter we really had information close at hand! In outlining beginner Mike said the first step is acquiring essential equipment. "I'd ad vise the purchase of an inexpensive fly rod about 8M; to 9 feet long with stiff tip action making it adaptable for fly, spinner and bait fishing.

A single action skeleton reel will be needed and a coil of braided silk (20 lb. test) or oil impregnated line (about level diameter); a card of size 8 hooks; a card of Japanese gut in 10 12 lb. test; 2 'size '00' spin ners, Colorado or Willow leaf style, one gold, the other nickel finish, and a box of split shot, Bis size." This basic investment for the budding Waltonian shouldn't cost more than $4 $5. Our advising expert says you need no fancy trappings or expensive trimmings when just starting out. The beginner should avoid bait casting reels because inexpensive ones back lash.

Fly rod reels can be had in gunmetal type with per torations lor quick drying of wet lines. The best bait is the "garden va neiy, nacKie worm, louna in damp soil. Mike says they should be stored in a tin can half filled with earth that has been mixed with brick dust. Seems the dust makes the worms turn a bright pink, and to a fish that looks like a delicious dinner! If you're like Sister Peg and shudder at the thought of baiting a line' with a "wiggly old worm," use spinners. Bread crusts have practically nil nibble appeal for even the hungriest fish.

Mike explained that spinners are used when bait fishing with worms or ahead of brilliant artificial flies such as Parmachene Belle, Royal Coachman, Lord Baltimore or Montreal's (size 6 or 8). These lures improve your chances of coming home with beautiful specimens of blue gill sun fish, crappie, or rock bass, or percn. Split shot is good for weighting down the line in a strong cur rent so your bait will tumble along in an innocent, bite able manner. Before going out on that first fishing trip, practice casting," says the Outdoors Ed. "Learn to throw accurately and delicately.

If possible have an older brother, Dad, or some other experienced fisherman stand by to give you pointers." Be sure you do this practicing on a lawn or field where the line won't become tangled in trees or bushes. When the fishing novice feels he's got his casting down pat, he's ready for that exciting first fishing trip. "Stand on the bank, cast in eddies and runs for trout, pools for suckers and catfish, deep water for fall fish," Mike advises. Yellow Breeches Creek in Cumberland county is suggested for good fishing, but experience will soon teach where fish are most apt to be found. Mike's final word is "patience." Ours "good luck!" First, it is the mode you're going to hear much about from now on and, second, it does things for you. It may take years off your face, as it did in a certain demonstration recently seen. The ruling is simply to arrange the hair on the sides to give you the narrowest effect possible. You can have all the curls, bangs, and decor you want elsewhere, but keep the sides thin. Some women are going to have a difficult time restraining the impulse to pull the hair out, to fluff it out above and around the ear.

Be fluffy and you're dated. Remember how so many women used to insist upon pulling out enough hair to form a curlycue just over the temples and drawn forward to meet the eyebrow end? You see little of that today be cause women recognized that clearing that sector between the eyebrow ends and the hairline made a great improvement in their appearance. It made them look, younger. Any heavy stroke of decor, be it slim curl or thicker curlycue, around the face ages and coarsens it, just as the heavy trim on dress robs it of style and youth ful line. i i GUARANTEED USED ELECTRIC REFRIGERATORS VP TO If one has a broad face this new order to comb the sides for the lean look is a godsend.

So many women with broad faces feel that they must pull and fluff the hair out on the sides to balance the line, but just try once combing the hair there back fairly tightly and with an up line and see how much better it is. The odd thing is that this hair trick actually gives the impression of a leaner, trimmer silhouette. Leave on Trip Mr. and Mrs. V.
