COURIER MONDAY, FEBRUARY T, WM Young Coed Found Brutally Choked, Stabbed NEW YORK MAP)' — A. young woman graduate college student was found choked and stabbed to death yesterday in a dingy, sixth-floor Manhattan tenement. "One of the most brutal murders I've ever seen," snid Police Capt. William Schnabel after inspecting the death scene. The body oi Anne Yarrow, 23, was discovered yesterday by a friend who hnd gone home to South Carolina for 10 days and allowed Miss Yarrow to use the apartment in her absence. Herta Payson returned to her sixth-floor frugal lodgings to find the front door almost ripped from its hinges antt the latch smashed. Her friend's mutilated body was sprawled on a mattress on the floor, clad only in a sweater and stabbed at least 40 times. No Weapon Found No weapon was found. There had been some kind of sexual assault on the attractive, dark-haired woman. A neighbor told police of hearing screams around midnight, and another said the phone had been ringing in the Payson apartment around 3 a.m. Police figured this ringing mtaht have been a return call from ^liss Yarrow's father, \vhom she had tried unsuccessfully to reach earlier in the evening. The father. Don Yarrow, a photographer, lives in Ventura, Calif. Miss Yarrow's parents arc divorced and her mother, now married to ship captain Alex Kaelcp, lives in Astoria, Queens, New York City. The slain girl was a 1953 honor graduate ot Guilford College near Greensboro. N. C., and had apartment with two other girls in Brooklyn. Pravda, they learned, said that "socialist competition"'at a Russian Donetz Bum plant had produced three-quarters of a million tons of dolomite in a year and claimed this as a worlds record. The letter continued: "We boys are paid immensely better than your boys. And We have job security. We can quit any time we want to and move on somewhere else.
