Very young pet lovers should spend the week in CTV's Romper Room (weekdays at 6 a.m. on CFCF-12 or 1 1 :30 a.m. on CJOH-8). A visit to the vet, a speaker from the humane society, hamsters, dogs and gerbils are all featured. Sports fans also have their programs this week.

Junior figure skaters might enjoy An Evening of Championship Skating (Wednesday at 8 p.m. on ETV-33). And aerobics for the very young is the subject of Free to Fly (Friday at 8:30 a.m.

on TVOntario), a weekly 15-min-ute workout with both a warm-up and a cool-down. Let's hear it for aunts and teachers, those unsung heroes who so often make a difference to kids. Public television pays tribute to both in two of the week's better television offerings. Dear Aunl Agnes is TVOntario's tip of the hat to the former. A collection of half-hour comedydramas, the popular series premiered last year and is ready to start its new season on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

A simple plot premise gives rise to an endless array of entertaining possibilities. When Alex and her brother Andrew are temporarily deprived of both their divorced parents, it's dear Aunt Agnes to the rescue. Outrageous, funny and always lovable, Agnes Pea-body (played by series producer Heather Conkie) helps her niece and nephew weather many of the storms of day-today living usually with grace, laughter and common sense. Dear Aunt Agnes is a good reason for TVOntario, exclusive producers of the show, to blow its own horn. The series attracted favorable notice last season in Variety, the U.S.

showbiz publication, which described it as "Gracie Allen meets Mr. Rogers." And with 13 new-and-improved programs ready to roll, hopes are high for season two. Teachers come in for a little overdue recognition through Mrs. Hcpp (played by Lynn Redgrave) in Walking on Air, PBS' WonderWorks presentation (Saturday at 8 p.m. on WCFE-57 and Sunday at 7 p.m.

on ETV-33). The premiere production of the new WonderWorks season. Walking on Air is really about the courage and determination of a young handicapped boy: After discovering in water the possibilities of weightlessness, Danny sets out against all odds to reach for his dream of walking in space. But he does it with the help of his science teacher, eccentric Mrs. Hcpp.

And it's her mature encouragement of the youngster's gutsy drive that will have many of the adults in the audience raising a silent cheer. Sunday marks the premiere of another new series, but the emphasis in this one is almost entirely on kids. De-grassi Junior High, the long-awaited follow-up to the popular Kids scries, debuts at 5 p.m. on CBC. The opening episode, Kiss Me, Sleph, focuses on a young girl who turns herself into a sexy candidate for the school elections.

Like the rest of the series, it provides a steady diet of food for thought without moralizing or losing its sense of humor. Aimed at THE WEEK'S CHILDREN'S HIGHLIGHTS 1:00 p.m. CD Disney 1:00 p.m. CD Just for Kicks 3:00 p.m. Cine-Famille p.m.
