He was engaged in unloading a car pf lime last week, which he hauled to his ranch.

He has contracted for three or four car loads cf lumber of Geo. Johnston, ne of our lumber dealers. At last Ellis is to have a photo grapher. Mr. S.

M. Davenport, of Missouri, comes highly recommended as a first-class photographer, and expects to be permanently located here by the 25th. Parties here who are personally acquainted with Mr. Davenport, say there is "no discount" on his work, but that it is strickly first-class. Such a will be heartily welcomed to our city.

Ben Miller, on preparing to retire on last Tuesday night, was not a little surprised and somewhat alarmed on discovering hat an ugly looking customer felt disposed to contest his claim, under the prior right of possession. A large rattlesnake held "the fort," and its presence was first Vnade known to Ben by a warning rattle, always given by this creature, preparatory to its fatal stroke. Fortunately, its location was discovered in the nick of time, and Ben saved from a perhaps fatal wound. The bedroom' occupying the second floor, the wonder is how the reptile got there. It was a narrow Sentinel.

Married, at Hays City, Kansas, on Thursday, April 15th, 1886, Mr. A. P. Glueck and Miss Ida Dailey, both of Ellis, Rev. Dr.

Gerrish officiating. The happy couple left on the evening train for Denver, where they expected to spend a few days. Glueck is a well-known mechanic of this place, having located here about a ear and a half ago. Miss Dqiley is Well know here, having lived here several years, and is the daughter of Major J- B. Dailey, the master me-chanic.

Tuesday April 20, 1S86. LOCALS LATE AND LIViiLY, Still the strike continues. Oh don't she boom the wind we mean. Born, last Friday to Mr. and Mrs.

Mat Marlburg, a daughter. Clotfelter Bell have a large force pi' carpenters working on their lumber yard building and fence. A brother pf B. Chapman is here and will buy land and become a permcnent resident of Ellis, county. The Ellsworth Reporter was last week designated by the County Commissioners, as the official paper of the county at legal rates.

Miss Cora Lorts has been dangerously sick during the past week. Dr. Kidd reports her out of danger and improving. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Samuel Ormerd, has been very sick for several days. We are pleased to learn that she is better. C. J. Bascom made a flying trip to Kansas City last week, on business connected with the water service of this division of the R.

R. Butts, the plasterer, has the contract for plastering about every house that has been built, and several that are under contract to be built. Again we say, bring on your wheat Ellis now has one of the finest equiped flouring mills in the west. Patient, Ed. Watts, Otto Schesky, and S.

J. Lent have each erected a dwelling house this spring-No "Jim Crow" affair, but good substantial buildings. Freight, and passenger traffic over the K. P. is just immense these days.

No. 1 has not been on time but twice in the last ten days, and most of the time it has required two engines to pull the train. Postmaster Kinney has leased the building east of Burbank and Mc-Leod's store, and having it enlarged and fitted up in good style, and will as soon as completed mave the post office to the same. April 14th was the anniversary of the fall of port Sumpter, and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The first event took place twenty-five and the assassination twenty-one years ago last Thursday.

B. F. Flefter left last Saturday for St. Louis, where he expects to meet his son Fred; and from there he will go. to California where he will remain for an undefinate time.

Mr. Fletter is an old resident of Ellis, and his presence will be missed. People in general, and drummers in particular, will be glad to learn that Collyer's hotel-the Occidentalwill be continued another year under the management of Mr. and Mrs. B.
