Muscatine, Journal Thursday, Dec. 23, 1963 The detour on highway 6 38 west of Wilton ended Wednesday afternoon. The highway north of Muscatine was closed for reconstruction of the roadway, a new and wider bridge over Mud creek and for the widening of the bridge Jaycees Seek Nominations For Oustanding Young Man Muscatine's Outstanding Young Man of 1965 will be selected to receive the Muscatine Jaycees' Distinguished Service Award. Judges will select the winner from among those nominated. Anyone wishing to submit a nomination is urged to use the blank in today's newspaper; or entry blanks are available at the Muscatine Civic Center.

Long, 59, was taken to Muscatine General hospital shortly before 2 o'clock this afternoon for treatment of head injuries sustained when the stationwagon he was driving hit a utility pole on Lucas St. The vehicle registration gave Long's address as 1023 Newell. He was driving west out Lucas when the stationwagon crashed into a utility pole at the Busch street corner. Muscatine city police are investigating the accident.

Tim was going across the street and moved in front of a car operated by Robert Massey, 305 Pond street, according to police. Massey took the injured boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Panther, 986 Newell avenue, to Muscatine General hospital. Ex amination there showed no broken bones.

TeStrake is the son of Mr. and Mrs.

Elmer TeStrake, 1105 Newell avenue. He is one of 12 seniors at Iowa Wesleyan nominated for the honor. A business administration major, he is a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Steeple Falls Into Power Lines Electrical circuits in the No. 5 and No.

6 alleys off Cedar street were put out of service at about 2:25 p. m. today when the brick steeple of the former First Christian church toppled through the municipal electric department's lines. Workmen have been engaged in razing the church and were pulling the steeple over with a winch. A repair crew was sent to the spot to restore service.

The traffic signal at Fifth and Cedar was also put out of service. Power was cut off at Muscatine Genera Hospital for a time but was restored from a different circuit. Drag River In Search For Boy, 14 SIOUX CITY (AP) Crews with grappling hooks probed the Big Sioux River today for the second of two young Sioux City boys presumed drowned while they were out checking their hunting traps. The body of one boy, Danny Eugene Whitesell, 12, was recovered late Wednesday. Still miss ing was his companion, Mark E.

Jorgenson, 14. The lads drove off on a bicycle I at 8 a.m. Tuesday and never re turned home. They were headed for the western outskirts of the city near where the Big Sioux flows into the Missouri River. There was ice in the'Big Sioux but it apparently had thawed somewhat.

The weather had turned mild. Raise Fund For Ailing Amishman OELWEIN (AP) A fund to help an Amishman who is hospitalized at Iowa City was being collected today at Hazleton and Oelwein. The Amishman, Jonas A. Hel muth of near Hazleton, has been in the hospital for two weeks. He has received more than 40 pints of blood and plasma.

Helmuth has four children, three of them of school age. The three older children, Katie, Rudy and Eli, attend a school with state certified teachers. There also is a baby at home. Helmuth has not been involved in the controversy which has led to repeated fines for a group of Amish fathers for refusal to send their children to schools with state certified teachers. Five collection points to collect funds to aid Helmuth and his family have been established in Hazleton, and one in Oelwein.

The collection was being sponsored by the Oelwein Daily Register. Robert Kimball, who started1 the collection in Hazleton, said a "surprising number" of residents immediately made contributions when the collection! was started Wednesday. Two Vehicles Are Damaged In Collision Two vehicles were damaged Tuesday evening in a collision on county road three miles west of Muscatine. Deputy Sheriff Bob Miller said a 1965 model car driven by Dr. John E.

Tillie, route 2, struck a 1964 model pickup being operated by Roy E. Tooman, 51, route 5. Tooman had backed from a garage into the roadway and the motor of his truck stalled as Tillie approached. Tillie reported his view of Tooman's vehicle was obscured by the lights of an oncoming vehicle. The front of Tillie's car and the right front section of the pickup were damaged.

Two Copies of Recodified Ordinances Are Available Two copies of the proposed recodified and augmented ordinances of Muscatine were available for public inspection today at the office of the city clerk. Mrs. Florence Mason, city clerk, said the books arrived by parcel post from Sterling Codi fiers, Weiser. Idaho. Until today the city had only one copy of the recommended i set of ordinances, including building and electrical eodei.

This copy left the city hall early in December in the company of Alderman Arthur Bunn, who said he wanted to study the laws and regulations governing local citizens. On Dec. 16 the move to adopt the recodified ordinances lost: when only five of seven alder men voted for the looseleaf compilation. Bunn still had his copy at that time, and there was none available for public inspection before the hearing that preceded the council vote. Since the old council has no more meetings scheduled until; it departs sine die on Jan.
