FRIDAY, MAY 7, 1982 THE PADUCAH SUN, PADUCAH, KY. Two-year discharge given in shooting case Homeplace to get replacement cabin drug rehabilitation; Roberta Burnham, alias Roberta Rushing, Metropolis, EL, forgery (three counts), two-year sentence, probated for one. year; two other counts dismissed; Gary E. Johnson, Minnich Avenue Apartments, first degree wanton endangermeht, one-year recommendation, May 20 sentencing; A 1 whole Homeplace was destroyed. "We're talking about one building out of 16," said Carpenter.

"Life is going on here just like it would have in the 1850's." Carpenter and other LBL staffers act as the farm "family." They're proceeding as if the fire really did burn out part of the family. "The son and his family who lived in the big cabin have 'moved in with ma and pa in the small cabin," said Carpenter. "It would have been a bit crowded but people were used to large families Dack then." The family, clad in authentic period costume, actually works the farm. But they go home nightly after chores. Carpenter explains that at the Homeplace, crops are tilled in mid-19th century fashion with horses or a team of oxen, Corn, wheat, oats and vegetables are produced on the farm as are tobacco and hogs.

The destroyed "dogtrot" home was the centerpiece of the Home-place, which consists of cribs, barns, a springhouse and a smokehouse. The dogtrot two log rooms or pens with an open hallway between was typical of dwellings in the rugged "between the rivers" section of western Kentucky and Tennessee a decade -before the Civil War. Carpenter and other regular members of the homeplace family James Godwin, 428 Harahan has received a two-year conditional discharge in McCracken Circuit Court for assaulting another man with a shotgun last Nov. 15. Circuit Judge J.

Brandon Price sentenced Godwin on Thursday. Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Bill Pinkston recommended a five-year prison sentence when Godwin pleaded guilty Tuesday to second degree assault The charge was reduced from first degree assault in return for Godwin's guilty plea. The judge's decision, similar to probation, was not unexpected, said Pinkston. He said Huerta Hancock, the victim, who resided with Godwin, apparently was a friend of Godwin. Alcohol allegedly was involved in the shooting, said Pinkston.

Hancock was hit in the pubic area by a 12 gauge shotgun blast Meanwhile, Price will sentence Patricia Ann Morgan, 301 Calvert Drive, on May 20. Ms. Morgan pleaded guilty Thursday to 10 counts of theft and a five-year sentence was recommended. Pinkston said Ms. Morgan, a former bookkeeper at PurceU Tire was charged with embezzling about $28,000 from the business from April 1980 until August 1981.

She has paid back part of the money, he said. Price continued a 25-count theft indictment against former City County Arts Council Director Don Hayes for trial on May 27. Hayes is charged with failing to produce repaid tours made through his ormer booking agency here. Among other cases continued was that of John P. Doolan, Mayfield, charged with first degree bail jumping and first degree PFO.

Price postponed Doolan's case until Aug. 26 arraignment day to be reset for trial in September. In other action this week, the following pleaded guilty: k- Edward L. If all goes as planned, there'll be an old-fashioned cabin-raising in Land Between The Lakes this summer.

The big cabin of LBL's Home-place-1850, a living history farm, was destroyed by fire last month. "We're looking right now at a replacement which is almost an exact duplicate, only a little smaller," said Ann Wright, LBL supervisor of interpretion and environmental education services. The likely replacement house a double-pen with dogtrot log home is located near Parsons, in Decatur County. "We have looked at a number of structures but this one seems to fit our needs," she added. Ms.

Wright declined to identify the owner of the cabin until final arrangements can be worked out to obtain it. She did say the structure in 150 years old. Ms. Wright also said since the April 18 blaze, LBL authorities have received about a dozen offers of cabins from people in Kentucky and Tennessee. "Some wanted to sell us cabins while others were willing to give them away," said Ms.

Wright "The response has been tremendous. We've even had a mover offer to move a cabin for us for practically just expenses." Parsons is located approximately 75 miles from the Homeplace, which opened in 1978 with 16 reconstructed log buildings. The Homeplace. nestles in secluded Prior Hollow in the LBL near Dover, seat of Stewart County. Jim Carpenter, manager of the 200-acre Homeplace.

is also grateful for the many offers of help for the Homeplace in the fire's aftermath. "I think that says a lot for the geople of this region," said Carpen- He's working on a list of household furnishings that will be needed in the new cabin. Meanwhile, it's business as usual at the farm. "We opened right up on Monday morning after the fire," said Carpenter. However, attendance at the farm has declined.

Carpenter wonders if that's because people think the. TOUCH CONTROL LAMP $EQ95 Other Stylet at Comparable Savings.
