"All we heard coining into this game was about our record here. We wanted to change that" It took more than the Eastern offense to change those omens. It took Colonel defensive back George Floyd to finally end the show. "We just came in here looking to win, that's alL" said Floyd, who intercepted a Racer pass at Eastern's two-yard line with just 16 seconds left to stifle Murray's last breath. It also gave the Colonels a 6-0 Ohio Valley Conference record, assuring them a share of the OVC title. Steve Bird, who wanjted to change a few bad habits he and the Colonels had gotten into, finally got his team rolling.

In the third-quarter, he had dropped three big asses, all easy catches. "I got in a urry," he said. "I wasn't watching the ball all the way." When Bird finally watched one all the way into his hands, he redeemed himself. After catching a fourth-quarter throw from Issac, Bird broke several tackles and banged his way 61 yards into the end zone ending a 90-yard drive to cut Murray's lead to 20-17 with eight minutes left. "For Beamer, the decisive moment came just as the fourth quarter opened.
