Entrants in the "Pick-The-Region" contest must comply by that regulation. Johnson's clutch play revives Western's hopes and 13 points, respectively. Fancy Farm hit 21 of 53 from the field for 40 percent and 21 of 42 from the line for 50 percent. The Lady Golden Gophers had 51 rebounds. Fulton City connected on 14 of 74 from the floor for 19 percent and 9 of 14 from the charity line for 64 percent.

The Lady Bulldogs pulled down 47 rebounds. Fancy Farm, 10-5, hosts Fulton County tonight while Fulton City, 2-15, entertains Heath Friday. Heath 39, Mayfield 34 Rhonda Hamilton, back from an ankle injury, led Heath with 15 points. Amy Warford and Kathi Spresser added 10 points each for the Lady Pirates. Jan Shelton had 17 points for Mayfield.

Heath hit 12 of 32 from the field for 37 percent and 15 of 18 from the line for 83 percent. Johnson with 44 seconds showing. Murray missed two shots in the waning seconds of regulation play and Overton blamed the collapse on the Racers' offensive woes rather than Western's pressure. "We made a lot of errors and I don't think it was because their defense was that super," he explained. "We scored 98 points, so I don't think their defense was that great.

We made a lot of foolish offensive plays. We've done that all year. "It happened at Middle. It happened at Tech. When you're losing, you start looking for it to happen.

The last four games we've shot over 50 percent but turnovers have absolutely annihilated us. "It's not because of a lack of effort or anything. Our kids deserve so much more because they've given so much. I know that sounds like a broken record but it looks like an instant replay every game." It didn't look like an instant replay for most of the game for the Racers, who shot a sizzling 59 percent from the field. Murray hit 41 of 70 shots from the floor and 16 of 19 free throws.

The Racers also won the board battle Mike Muff tossed in 20 points to back Warren and Murray also got strong games from 6-11 center Danny Jarrett and Ran Top-ranked Lowes edged eighth-rated Hickman County 53-51 to highlight basketball play in the Third District Monday night. Fourth-rated Fancy Farm crushed Fulton City 63-37 and Heath slipped past Mayfield 39-34. Linda Shelby poured in 27 points to lead Wingo past Farm-ington 58-43. Lowes S3, Hickman County 51 Tammy Simmons led the Lady Blue Devils with 20 points. Deana Hart added 17 markers.

Carol Batts and Tracey Humphries had 14 points each for Hickman County. Kay Aleshire chipped in 11 points for the Lady Falcons. Lowes, 19-2, hosts St. Mary tonight. Hickman County finishes with a 12-4 mark.

Fancy Farm 63, Fulton City 37 Jeanne Harris and Lisa Painter led Fancy Farm with 15 "We just don't have any leadership late in the game," Overton concluded. "When it gets down to the pressure points, we just don't have anyone who, will take charge. We haven't had anyone all year. "The same thing repeats itself every game. We did the same thing at Middle Tennesee (where Murray bowed 57-56 Saturday.

We we were ahead by 12 and let them come back late in the game. "We don't have anyone who can organize things out there. That's not a reflection on the kids. Leadership that's an intangible thing. We just don't have a guy who will come down the court and say 'I'm gonna do it' "We've tried to four-corner it and not four-corner it late in the game," he continued.

"We've tried a big lineup and a little lineup but the same thing hap-' pens." Murray tried to use the four-corner attack after two free throws by Jimmy Warren, who paced the Racers with 22 points, provided an 80-68 lead with 5:21 to play. MSU promptly committed 8 of its 24 turnovers, however, against a Western lineup stacked with two guards and two quick forwards on the press. Western stormed back to tie the game aSO on a dunk by dall, who has sat out most of the year because of first a suspension and then a broken thumb. Jarrett, who averages 4.8 points a game, hit six straight shots from the field and grabbed six rebounds in the first half when Murray built a 48-35 advantage. He wound up with 18 points on a 9-of-ll performance from the field and 12 rebounds before fouling out with 57 seconds left in regulation.

Randall had 11 rebounds and 10 points and Johnny Thirdkill, who was slowed by ankle injury, added 12 points. "Danny was really playing well before Christmas," Overton noted. "He played like that (Continued from Page 5B) For the night, Johnson hit 14 of 20 field goal attempts and 6 of 12 free throws for 34 points. He also grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked 3 shots and came up with 5 steals. "James Johnson was just fantastic," Western coach Jim Richards bubbled.

"I don't -think he's ever played better. He absolutely went to work in the second half. He didn't even play that well at Michigan when he scored 29 points and got no telling how many rebounds. "The Good Master smiles on you when you win like that. Murray has lost so many close games and we've lost so many close games.

This is the sixth overtime game we've been in since the middle of January. We've won three and lost three. "Right now, this win makes me estatic but we still have to Lynn ignites Murray women Sledge spurs Pilots; Marshals extend streak Phone. beat Middle Tennessee (which leads the conference at 10-3) or we'll be out of it. a layup with 4 in overtime, Richards pointed to 6-5 sophomore Mike Prince as the unsung hero. With the score knotted 98-98 and Western in control of the ball, Richards called time and set up a play which worked to perfection. Johnson looped from the sideline next to the Hilltoppers' bench around the key and down the lane away from the play. The inbounds pass went in the opposite corner to Steve Ashby, Prince picked off Mike Muff and Ashby lobbed in to Johnson for an easy layup. Crittenden County, 13-7, visits Lyon County tonight.

Turner finished with 22 and Greg Jackson had 18 for the Hilltoppers. We had to dig deep for the Grand Canyon. MURRAY, Ky- Laura Lynn scored 17 points to lead the Murray State University women to a 66-59 victory over Western Kentucky University here Monday night. Lynn, a freshman guard from Paducah, hit 6 of 13 shots from the field and 5 of 7 free throws. Four other Racer women scored in double figures. Jackie Mounts and Bev Parrish each sacked 11 points and Laura taM "It was a normal sidelines out of bounds play," Richards noted.

"We haven't been as successful with that this year as usual because Mike Prince has been out a lot. He makes the pick that makes it possible and we don't get the same pick when he's not in there. "The pick is essential. In the papers tomorrow you'll read about Ashby's pass and Jay-Jay's dunk but you won't read about that hero out there that, made the pick." Johnson was fouled on the play by Tom Leffler but missed the three-point opportunity. John Randall rebounded for Murray but his shot at the buzzer from mid-court was well short and the Racers fell to 7-17 overall and 3-10 in the conference.

MSU has lost 8 OVC games by a total margin of only 16 points. Liz Weglicki scored 20 points for St. Mary and Pam Trogolo added 16 markers. Murray, 7-7, hosts Farmington tonight while St. Mary, 9- 9, travels to top-ranked Lowes.
