EARLY EDITION A18 WORLD THE GAZETTE, MONTREAL, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2008 In the NEWS Prostitutes-killer suspect in other slayings NURSE WHO MURDERED SEVEN PATIENTS GETS LIFE Prague A Czech court imposed a life sentence yesterday on a nurse for murdering seven of his patients and attempting to kill another 10. Peter Ze-lenka dubbed the Heparin Murderer was found guilty of killing patients by administering the anti-blood-clot-ting agent heparin at the hospital in the city of Havlickuv Brod in 2006. The doses provoked massive hemorrhages. The 31-year-old bowed his head, showing no apparent emotion, as the sentence, aired live on television, was read. LONDON DAILY TELEGRAPH London Detectives want to question Steve Wright over the disappearance of real estate agent Suzy Lamplugh and a string of other unsolved cases after he was convicted yesterday of murdering five women.

Lamplugh's father, Paul said police have confirmed to him the serial killer is a potential suspect over the death of his 25-year-old daughter, who worked with Wright on the liner QE2 and stayed in touch with him before she vanished in July 1986. The disappearance of Lamplugh remains one of the most notorious unsolved cases in Britain. Her body has never been found and she was declared dead in 1994. Police have been told by psychologists it is "highly likely" Wright, 49, has killed before, and the murders by him of five prostitutes in Ipswich bear striking similarities to several unsolved killings in the East Anglia region. In addition to Lamplugh, Wright could be questioned over as many as five unsolved murders and disappearances in the past 16 years.

The families of two of Wright's victims called for the return of the death penalty after a jury in Ipswich took just eight hours to convict him of the murders of Tania Nicol, 19, Gemma Adams, 25, Anneli Alderton, 24, Annette Nicholls, 29, and Paula Clennell, 24. The verdicts were unanimous. The former forklift truck driver, the so-called Suffolk Stran-gler, stared straight ahead as the verdicts were read. Relatives of his victims shouted "yes." Several broke down in tears. Wright strangled or suffocated all of his victims before dumping their naked bodies in the countryside, deliberately "posing" two of the bodies in the shape of across.

Although Wright's only previous conviction is for theft, he has a history of domestic violence and sexual deviance, and repeatedly tried to strangle one of his two ex-wives. As Wright waits to be sentenced today, attention shifted to the question of whether he had killed other women before he was stopped in December 2006. Suffolk Police said yesterday that officers would conduct "cold case" reviews of unsolved murders and offer their help to other police forces. CROATIA BUSTS MAJOR CHILD PORN OPERATION zacreb Police said yesterday they had raided the homes of more than 130 suspects across Croatia in a major operation against Internet child pornography. The operation, dubbed Sledgehammer, was one of the biggest to have been carried out in a Balkan country and was done in co-operation with international police organization Interpol.
