New Ward Almost Done LARNED The Southwest Medical Center will have a new three room, six patient pediatrics ward due to a major remodeling project which is nearing completion. Administrator Bennie Witzke said that the ward is being remodeled from three rooms that were part of the obstetrics wing. The rooms weren't being used by obstetrics because of the declining birth rate. Benefits of the remodeling include complete and continuous visual observation and control over the ward from the nurses station which will eliminate the necessity of parents or someone else having to spend 24 hours a day with their hospitalized children and better utilization of hospital rooms. Possibilities for Ambulance Service Are Discussed HOLYROOD After talking about getting an ambulance service in Holvrood for the last few years, a meeting was held to discuss establishing an ambulance service there. Max Folk of the Kansas Highway Commission and Steve Lindsay of the Houston, Texas Fire Department and Ambulance Service were the principal speakers at the meeting.

They explained how an ambulance service works, how it is financed and other details. It was explained that the service would have to be available for 24 hours a day and that two men skilled in first aid fundamentals would be needed to operate the service. The state would finance 50 Der cent of the project with the remainder of the money coming from local funds. Les Montgomery, Holyrood fire chief, said that the people of Holyrood and the surrounding area should express their opinions concerning the ambulance service so that it may be determined if there is enough interest to warrant the service.
