FOR TRUSTEES Labor Men Support Walker, Wright and Dickey in School Board Race Keep Politics Out Of The Schools; Elect Old Board heartily agree with the sentiment that politics should be kept out of the schools and I believe that this has been done during- the past two said rabbi Martin Zielonka, of Temple Mt. Sinai, today. this reason I believe the present school board should be reelected and if the women of El Paso want to do the best thing1 for the schools and really to keep politics out, they will iWidraw their candidate and give their support to the old board. order to build up a good school system, we must have an able man at the head and continue him there. The present superintendent, Mr.

Tighe, is a man of exceptional ability and should be continued in his work. He should have the hearty support of citizen having- at heart the best interests of the schools of El Organized labor will plav a hand in the game of electing trustees on the city school board Saturday. Members of unions have picked Roy M. Walker and Fred Wright, from the and J. A.

Dickey, who has said he is running as an independent. The labor union men frown upon the four -old members of the board running for reelection, Ed. M. Whitaker, C. Stevens, S.

J. Freudenthal and A. E. Hawley, it is said, because these men seem to be standing firm for the Gary system in the schools and also because, say, the unions like Supt. II.

3. Tighe. Whether the Central Labor union, or the recently formed labor congress have taken official action, endorsing the three candidates, was not definitely established Wednesday, but little tickets were circulated among labor men Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, bearing the printed names of Walker, Dickey and Wright, imprinted with the -Typo- graphical label. One prominent labor union worker said Tuesday evening that the union men were against the Gary system because it is impractical, claiming that only in Gary, has the system been successful. Just why they like Supt.

Tighe was not ascertained. Jones Gets J.iist T. M. Jones, the candidate on the democratic executive committee named by district attorney Leigh Clark, whose name was not drawn for place on the official printed ballot Tuesday afternoon, because Mr. Jones failed to register his name with school auditor F.

E. Sawyer by noon, was given the last place on the ticket later Tuesday, when W. P. Brady, campaign i anager for the ticket composed of Hoy M. Walker.

Fred Wright, S. N. Missel 1 and Mr. Jones, demanded of the board that such action be taken, despite the frequent admonitions of the board that, according to law, candidates not registered by Tuesday noon would be omitted from the printed ballot. A threat of mandamus was made, it is said, if the board declined to accede to the demand.

As one voter expressed it Tuesday, a literacy test may be necessary Saturday for citizens who attend the polls, in order that votes for four candidates on the ticket may be intelligently cast and the other seven eliminated. Hxplaiiifi Jones Jn a public statement Wednesday, J. Worthington and Scott C. White, I members of the school board, explained that the reason Miss Lula Jones, a kindergarten teacher, had been deprived of a pay voucher, was that, according to state superintendent of schools W. Doughty, she had not filed with him in Austin letters regarding her ertificate, which she, the board members said, had claimed to have sent.

Having iproduced no certificate, the rustees said, her pay was withheld. On March 2. the statement read, the certificate was received by trustee W. D. Mayfield and 011 March 3 the voucher was ready for Miss Jones.

Pay High School Accounts. There will be no bills outstanding against the new high school edifice when vouchers from the city school board, approved Tuesday afternoon at a meeting of trustees, are sent to three contractors. pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Wednesday. is a bad thing to have the city schools as any part of political system. It is bad for the schools to be controled by any political faction, as when the faction goes out of office another comes in. The schools belong to the city and they are an institution in which every one is interested and so should never be made a political issue. I have my personal views about whom should be elected 1 Saturday and .1 know how I am going to maintain that (politics should have no place in El Paso school eaid Robert Krakauer.
