linOUGII the creation of a faculty, courses of study and housing of the first class, tho of Texas may establish 'ivith the institutions of learning which will take the lead in this country during the reconstruction period T.hich will follow the war. This was I he statement Dr. II. E. Vinson, jiresident of the university, made before the 350 persons who attended the third annual dinner of the local Kx-! association or tne of Texas at Hofei Sheldon Saturday night.

Dr. urged tipon his hearers the importance of workinp: ihe attainment of these three objects in the near future. W. If. Buries, of Ohicapro, formerly of El Paso, addressed those who at- the dinner, characterized the university as an institution which, proven by the trials of tho past year, bad taken a place assured in the affections of the people of Texas.

Miss F'erguson i is seen as a beautiful young salesgirl in in Oriental goods store which has ivranches at Palm Feach and Atl.intie City. Her wonderful beauty makes her the recipient of attention from the human wolves of society. Circumstances are against her and she. unlike most of the heroines of similar stories is unable to resist the temptations and courses, but I do want to see the present courses raised to their proper standard.

TVe do not have as high a standard as Harvard or Yale, because we are a part of the school system of the state. we had so high a standard as these schools, there would be an interval of four years of study between the high school graduate and the first year of then we have a universitv of the people. Better third necessity for a university of the first class is adequate buildings. We accomplish the ideal things we desire in the we now posses.s. A university of the first class be maintained on 40 acres of ground; 400 is more like what we need. these three things are accomplished, we will not have to concern ourselves about the number of will take care of itself. we accomplish these three things, we be able to keep students or 5000 students is not beyond the possibilities of the institution.

OF SUNNYBROOK IS WORTH SEEING A very pretty little pastoral play. of Sunnybrook pleased large audiences Sunday at the Crawford theater, but largely because of the fine ability of the Emma Bunting company and tne fact that the play was beautifully staged. Tlie play itself was a little thin. It bears evidence of having been revamped and enlivened with comedy bits and with little situations to appeal to tlie audience.

The company plays up to the full possibilities of the piece and a little bit more, but with the best in- t.entions of Kate Douglas Wiggirs, a play come up to the mark of and Littlest At that of Sunnybrook is worth seeing, with Miss Emma Bunting in the rnle of another of her child impersonations. The play is so devised as to make her about two thirds of the show, George Whitaker did well in his part as Adam Ladd, or Mr. Aladdin.
