NEWS LETTER FROM CONGRESSMAN WALTER ROGERS OF THE 18TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT SUMMER IS GONE It's hard to believe that summer is gone I've seen a few die-hards still carrying baseball equipment Like me, I guess they hate to see our long summer days slip into oblivion to be replaced by shorter days and cooler evenings The football fans seem to be welcoming the change though You'll find them on most every street corner or drug store replaying last Friday's game or telling of "how I'd handle that team in next week's game. So make plans now to put away your summer clothes and shake the mothballs out of the winter suits. Summer going fast; King Football is here to hasten it on its way.

PRESCRIPTION FOR PLEASURE The telephone by your side can be pretty good medicine by itself. It's one of the best cures for loneliness I thinking especially, of those long distance calls to talk to loved ones and old friends away from home And how about those easy going conversations women enjoy during the day? When you're tired of looking at the ironing board, or when the mop starts to get a httie heavy, a short "telephone break' just a tew minutes chat with a friend or neighbor really brings you back smiling. Your telephone is more than just a convenience There is plenty of pleasure and relaxation built into it, too. So use it as often as the mood strikes you. That what it's there for Up-To-Date Idea About Telephones New European Common Market Sometime back I mentioned a few aspects of the proposed European Economic Community As this approaches reality.

I feel that it is important for the people of this country to understand just what is taking place; therefore. I will attempt to point out a few of the highlights of this proposal in this newsletter This Community is composed of six signers of a treaty, to wit, Western Germany, France. Belgium. Luxemburg. The Netherlands and Italy.

The primary purpose of the movement is to create a closer economic integration in Western Europe The feeling is that if there can be a successful economic integration between these countries, it will result as a matter of course in a better political integration As among the six member countries, there is intended to be created a market and trade operation similar to commerce between the states in the United States. The operation is to include the move ments of goods, services, manpower or investment of capital. It is contemplated that this will result in a competitive situation within the member countries that will provide concentration of pro ductive power in those areas peculiarly adapted to particular products, and thereby increase ef ficiency in production. This will in turn, enable the European Eco nomic Community as a whole to have a most effective weapon in general competition for world trade. The free movement of manpower between the countries is expected to answer labor shortages without difficulty It should be noted at this point that there are several countries in Europe and the Scandinavian area not members of the Common Market Treaty.

These include the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway Denmark. Austria and Switzerland These countries have been nego tiating to create a Free Trade Area which would include the Common Market countries. These other countries realize the potential of the common market theory as benefiting Europe, but because of commitments and other situations in which they are involved. they find themselves unable to participate in the entire Common Market program and to become members of the European Hildreth Gives Preserve Recipe Because of the abundance of peaches this year. Mrs.

Mona Hildreth has been deluged with requests for recipes for preserves. Her recommended recipe is one pound of prepared peaches for each three quarters to one pound of sugar Any variety of white or yellow peach of good dessert quality at the firm stage may be used Wash and pare the peaches Leave whole or cut into uniform pieces Combine the sugar and fruit in alternate layers Let stand eight to ten hours or overnight before cooking, or add the sugar and one fourth cup water for each pound of fruit and cook at once In either case, stir carefully while heating to boiling Cook until the syrup is somewhat thick, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Fill hot sterilized jars three- fourths full with the preserved fruit If paraffin is to bo used, add enough syrup to fill the jar to one-fourth inch from the top; otherwise, fill to top of jar Seal, label and store STAR-STUDDfltD PUN! ,0,000 ICI CAFAOES I STATE FAIR of Texas Alt DALLAS Economic Community, such It is generally felt in Europe that a free trade area will be established in keeping with the general thinking of common market theory Is it where you or when you Where is the telephone in your home? con always reach it easily when it rings want to make a calP Or is it in a central hall or in the middle of the house really close to any place where members of your family are when they want to use it? Families with modern telephone service like to have phones in color in the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. With your home equipped with handy extension telephones, you can "reach" rather than run for the phone. Why not order more telephones for your home today? You'll find the cost of extensions will add very little to what you now pay, but will add a great deal to your comfort and convenience.

S. manufacturers.
