Extremities may remind them of the former. The latter is beyond the playwright's intentions. Those readers with a little memory for theater may wonder what William Mastosi-mone's Extremities is doing coming 'round again after so many years. One answer is that its production is "the K-State Theater Department's contribution to the Season of Peace, sponsored by the Campus Campaign for Non-violence." I'riad not previously known of such a "Season," though I had remembered we are in Black History Month.

Extremities, directed here by Sally Bailey, is a long, long one-act following events when an evil man walks into a rural house and attacks one of its three young female tenants. Meanwhile Raul (George Stavropoulos) begins wising-off about how the police won't be able to hold him as the case will come down to his word against hers. He'll be back after her, he says, and soon.

Worried, she thrusts him into the fireplace and chains a bike across the opening. Behind the stage set proper (designed by Reuben Lucas) is a screen on which are projected pictures of the sky. A storm, also indicated by sound effects and G.W. CLIFT ARTS CRITIC some light strobing, breaks during Marjorie's brief struggle with Raul. The lighting(by Deborah SteimeDand slides continue to suggest the progress of daylight during the play.

When Terry (Alissa Duncan) comes home, Marjorie quickly demands that she watch the prisoner. Marjorie is going outside to dig his grave. And we get to watch! The grave is dug out with a scoop shovel down lefton the Nichols Theater stage. This reminded me of what a friend says about the lengthy grave digging scene in the Russian movie Stalker. But in this case there is also the action inside the house to follow Raul cajoles, whines, and threatens trying to convince Terry to let him go.
