Peacefully at the LEMIEUX, Joseph Age seventythree, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospice on Friday, September 14, 2001. Elizabeth Richards, who had been by turns historian, editor, press officer, teacher and researcher, was a guardian of the English language, and above all a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Born in Letterston, Wales, her journey took her to university at Aberystwyth; to London, MA studies on the French Revolution, and a career at the BBC; to a new life and career in Canada when she chose to settle in Montreal in 1958, with Robin St. Clair Hardy she had a son, Dominic, born in 1960. From 1958 to 1978 she was in consular and then information services at the British Consulate in Montreal. For her services during the October Crisis of 1970, she received the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen's Honours List of 1971.

Throughout this time and in later years she made highly respected editorial contributions to the works of the late political scientist Dale C. Thomson. Elizabeth retired to Peterborough in 1995. She leaves her son, her daughter-in-law Lori Beavis Hardy and grandchildren Caitlin and Iris; sisters Magwen and Becca in Pembrokeshire and Dora in Somerset, and their families; and close friends and family in Lois and Al Beavis of Peterborough, ON. A memorial service will be held at Donwood United Church in Peterborough on Friday, September 21 at 2 p.m.

If desired, donations may be made to The Art Gallery of Peterborough or to Donwood United Church. 155661 OBITUARY SANDRA Sandra Kolber, a leader for more than thirty years in many aspects of Montreal's community and cultural life, died on Wednesday, September 12, 2001, at the Jewish General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Haim and Stella Maizel, she is survived by her husband, Senator E. Leo Kolber to whom she was married for 44 years; daughter Lynne and Barry Halliday of New York; son Jonathan and Irit Kolber of Tel Aviv; cherished grandchildren, Olivia Halliday and Benjamin, Daniella and Michael Kolber. She also leaves to mourn her sister and brother-in-law, Norah and Sam Freedman; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jacquie and Sam Kolber; her nieces and nephews; her caregivers, Etheline Monrose and France Savoie and her dear friends.

Fluently trilingual, Sandra Kolber had been a journalist, poet, film writer. consultant and producer and a director of Canadian Broadcasting Radio-Canada, Cineplex Odeon Corporation and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (MSO) of which she also had been Vice-President, and a Trustee of the National Film Board of Canada. In 1979 she joined Astral Bellevue and later was a founding Vice President of Canadian International Studios (C.I.S.). Mrs. Kolber produced 'Paroles et Musique', 'Tell Me That you Love Me' and 'Georges and the Star', which featured music by Paul Anka and was nominated for a Gemini Award in 1986.

Her tireless work as a dynamic patron of the arts led to her appointment as a member of the Order of Canada in 1993. In 1994, she was awarded the Governor-General's Medal for Volunteerism in the performing arts. Mrs. Kolber was President of the Sandra and Leo Kolber Foundation which dispenses significant funds each year to arts and cultural organizations, medical research and facilities and education. She was the first woman to sit on the Board of the United Talmud Torahs.

She also served on the Drama Board of the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts and was closely associated with McGill University (graduate of 1955); the Jewish General Hospital; the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital; as well as a wide range of local philanthropies. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 14, in Montreal. After a lengthy illness at the Montreal Extended Care Centre, peacefully passed away at the age of eightyeight years.
