There was no St. Albans bounce when the team played Nitro in the last game, hoping for a shot at a winning record of 6-4. The result was another one-point loss and a break- even record of 5-5. "WHEW," Lerose said one day, wiping his brow. "That's the kind of season you hear about, but never expect to have. But, really, it wasn't a bad season. We played some good football." The Red Dragons played w e l l e n o u g h t o s t a m p themselves as a threat this season to break .500--where they usually find themselves with the aid of the St. Albans bounce. The team has enough talent returning from last year's team and new prospects to make fans forget the 5-5 record of 1971. 1972 Schedule 1971 Score A, Barboursville 20-21 A, Pt. LeRose has high hopes for Russell, a quick 5-10, 195- pound senior, and Robinson, who scored 12 touchdowns despite injuries. "1 think they should be two of the better boys in the Kanawha Valley," the coach said. THE OTHER offensive starters returning are ends Mark Heindl and Dwight Jackson, quarterback Mike Dillon and f u l l b a c k Bart Hillenbrand. Russell at guard, Robinson at linebacker, Hillenbrand at halfback and Wayne Allen at halfback are the returning defensive regulars. "With a little bit of luck," LeRose said, "we'll be okay."
