Stonewall Jackson students danced on Laidley Field after their football team had beaten Charleston for the Old Elk Bucket and 7-3 season. The chants are only memories now. Bicker BILLS A 7-3 season may be only a memory, too. "My goodness, I don't know what we're going to do, especially early in the season," says the Generals' coach, Bill Jarrett. "I hope we don't get some of these sophomores and juniors killed off before they learn to play football." * * * JARRETT COUNTS 10 juniors and 25 sophomores among h i s p l a y e r s , a n d realizes t h e j u n i o r s a n d sophomores will have to start as well as provide depth. "Some of our starters will be sophomores and our backup man at nearly every position will be a sophomore," he pointed out. "That isn't the way I like it, but that's the way it is." Among the sophomores f i g u r i n g p r o m i n e n t l y i n Bill Jarrett Sixth Year At Stonewall Jackson Jarrett's plans are defensive linemen Paul Monroe, 6-1,185- pound tackle, and Mark Chap. man, 5-7, 150-pound middle guard, and safety Jeff Simons, 6-0, 150-pounder. Juniors who didn't letter and expected to help this season include guard Bert McCabe (6-0, 175). running back-defensive halfback Greg Johnson (5-9,156) and fullback Randy King (6-0, 175). THREE REGULARS from last season head a list of 13 seniors on the Stonewall roster. They're split end Bobby White, a giant of a receiver at only 5-6 and 125 pounds; offensive guard-linebacker Joe Kautz, and fullback Alan Parrish. White caught three touchdown passes last season a n d P a r r i s h s c o r e d s i x touchdowns with most of them coming on short plunges. Kautz played end part of the time last season and scored two touchdowns. "We have a fourth regular back-defensive h a l f b a c k Buddy Watson who will be our quarterback this season " Jarrett said.
