That's the word at Gauley Bridge this season where the Travellers are short in numbers but long on talent. Gauley Bridge coach Mike Morrison plans to switch and switch and switch players from one position to another throughout the games. "We're so small in numbers that all of our players are having to learn two or three different positions. We've got good players, but we just don't have enough of t h e m , " Morrison said. Or what do you do with Greg Snodgrass, who will play at tight end or offensive tackle or halfback? Or what about Kenny Hayes who will play tackle, guard and center. "You'll need one thing if you're planning on watching any of our games and that's a program," Morrison said. "That will be just about the only way you'll know who's playing where." Impressive in early drills has been running back Tommy Smith, a 6-0, 185-pounder who was the team's leading ground gainer last year. "Tommy is also tough on defense and will play middle linebacker for us and captain t h e d e f e n s i v e t e a m , " Morrison said. Sophomores will figure heavily in Gauley's drive this season. Stan McCutcheon has moved in to a starting halfback slot. The Travellers' roster lists only 29 players. "That's where we're really hurting. With just 29 boys you can't afford to have a single one of them hurt for very long. Gauley Bridges' main hope this year rests on Dye, a veteran quarterback and probably the biggest signal caller in the state at 6-5 and 210-pounds. "He's the veteran of the team. He's been a starter for two previous years and all the b o y s look t o h i m f o r leadership. He's also a very talented ball player with a t r e m e n d o u s t h r o w i n g arm that could carry us to a winning season," Morrison explained.
