-- August 24,1975 Suncfo Fighting Irish Vow To Improve In '75 ^^^^ _ 1 _I«..nvv *?H*1-H ·* f£L U'tftl*t _ I ! _ n L. A A.I-n MT 11*1 I I Vvj-l faVirVf An f Wf\TY\ \ VINCE DOWELL Halfback In his first year as head coach at Charleston Catholic in 1974. Steve Annie, at least, left considerable room for improvement. The youthful Fighting Irish lost all of their 10 games and. as Annie painfully remembers, scored "only three or four touchdowns." one of which was contribut- · ed by the defense on a recovered fumble. But 12 regulars return from last year and five other lettermen are available, prompting Annie to vow, "I feel we'll be better than last year. We'll definitely be better offensively." And the schedule has been softened a bit. making the Irish more comparable in size to their opponents, although five Class AAA foes remain. Beckley, DuPont and South Charleston have been replaced by Ripley, Sherman and Buffalo-Wayne. "We had a lot of kids who played as sophomores," Annie points out, "so we're still a year away." In predicting improvement for 1975 Annie not only cites the experience of his players but stresses their attitude and de- termination to prevent a recurrence of another dreadful winless season. "The big thing is they realize what they have to do." he says. ·'They're more dedicated to what we're doing. They have more pride. A lot of them are back who went through an 0-10 season and that's not a very pleasant experience They're working to overcome that." In determining a starting lineup. Annie will choose his linemen from a list that includes Matt Crist, Brent Pauley. Scott Stewart, John Sadd, Ed Eagloski, Tim Williams and Chris Pauig. Linebackers will be chosen from Mike Schumacher, Frank Russell. Mike Moquin. Yince Dowell. and Brent Pauley Receiver candidates include Sam Femia. Steve Haley and Mike Lanham. Running backs probably will be Moquin. Russell. Dowell and Pete Pauley and the quarterfcaekiag will be tfoae by either Wayne McCoy . Joseph Tamer or Rob Sup- coe. The two not playing quarterback *ill likely play regularly on defense. \\ ith only 32 players on the roster. Annie says assuredly. "All will play." -IM4 1 154 Mj.ISi r«lr «S.M~2JJ-2J2t.t-I lMUttStU-att.ttS-1121 UI4B IIKI4 U.113 Fighting Irish RETURNING REGULARS Pliytr Pfli. Mall Crist C MIKE MOQUIN Halfback Ht. Wt.
