"We should have more finesse and quickness than we had on offense last year." said the coach who guided the Pioneers to 10 straight wins ;aii season after they opened with a 15-14 loss to Oak Hill. /. Danii'Lt, I). Daniels THE PLACE TO BUY NEW GUNS, TOO! ·n if. "But. the question is. will we have the brute power that we had a year ago." » » » WITH DANIELS returning, power shouldn't be too much of a problem since he bulled his way to 68 points as a junior. The Pioneers also have more speed and power in the presence of junior Claude Geiger. who scored 48 points in a r e s e r v e r o l e as a sophomore. A n o t h e r D a n i c - l s , D e Wayne's younger brother, Mel. gives the Pioneers experience at quarterback. The 5-7. 146-pound junior started three games last fall before yielding the post to a senior, David O'Neal. East Bank is equally well supplied on the offensive line, where it has All-Stater Gary Walker i6-4. 2641 returning at tackle. Other regulars coming back include ends Keith Bigler and Bruce Milarn, and guard Darnell Penn. If the Pioneers have a w e a k n e s s , it w i l l be on defense, according to Arthur. "We should have a good secondary and line, but I ' l l have to wait and see about our linebackers." the coach said. · * « DESPITE the absence of Lester Weems who made off with a record 13 pass interceptions last fall, East Bank's secondary should pose considerable problems for aerial minded opponents. Not only is DeWayne Daniels back for another campaign at halfback, but the Pioneers have Sylvester Penn and Milam to man the other positions. Both Penn and Milam saw frequent action a year ago. With Walker, touted as a second lean: p r e - s c a s c n schoolboy A i l - A m e r i c a n , a n c h o r i n g t h e d e f e n s i v e forward wall at tackle. Arthur is confident he can throw up a good line of defense to go with him and Bigler. a veteran defensive end. All-in-all, the Pioneers look like a team that will have to be reckoned w i t h before Don Arthur Fourth Year At East Bank another Class AAA grid crown is decided.
