Nurd Ik ArM In addition to displays of painting and sculpture, Artrain carries craftsmen who demonstrate pottery making. e Three railroad cars, converted into art galleries and studios for craftsmen and artists, are visiting communities across the U.S. This "Artrain," a project of the Michigan Council for the Arts, is spending the autumn months in rural areas of Michigan to bring art to people who may never have had a chance to visit a museum. In Cass City, farm families came by car, truck and even horseback. Farmer Frank Butler said he didn't understand much of what he saw, but that "art is all around us every day. I see it almost every time I plow a field." The exhibit includes works by Braque, Picasso, Renoir, Rouault and Seurat as well as contemporary U.S. artists. There are also examples of ancient Egyptian,. Greek, African, North American Indian, European Renaissance and Far Eastern paintings and sculptures. Not every visitor's reaction is positive. One father rushed through and went to wait under a tree for his family. "The only thing I liked about the Artrain," he said, "was the air conditioning." IIM HANSIN Sam Finley, 77, on board the Artrain is bemused by a piece of contemporary sculpture. He also got to try His hand at painting. 93969 94404 94397 94363 94433 94260 Start your fabulous collection the easy w a y . . . with your first record absolutely FREE) Plus 12 more top albums for just $1.87 plus shipping/handling.
