Interesting, highly enjoyable biography of Winston Churchill as a young man. His lonely childhood, school days, t i g h t s in India, and exploits in the Boer War are rous- ingly recalled. Battle sequences are particularly stunning. Simon Ward plays Churchill with power, and Anne Bancroft, and Robert Shaw are moving as Churchill's inattentive parents. 9 p.m.. 03® "A KIND OF LIVING," 119621 **. with Alan Bates and June Ritchie. Besides the indomitable Ms. Raye,' there are Tab Hunter, Slim 'Pickens. Nncy Malone and Alejandro Rey. but it's Ms. Raye who gets the " juciest role and the real chance to show off. 8 p. m. NBC. Arthur Fiedler opens the concert with Sousa's El Capitan March, continues with the overture to Carneval by Dvorak, and-selections from the musical Oklahoma, whereupon conductor Fiedler's guests dominate the show. Any fan of Pearlie Mae's shouldn't miss her here, singing Smile, Tired and Cabaret with grand emotion, sitting on the edge of the stage, or standing to finish a song with style. In addition, there's a drum solo from Pearl's drummer husband, Louis Bellson, to Carnafcy Street. Nice going. PBS. (BCS) MASTERPIECE THEATER. "Notorious Woman." (Repeat). Dramatic if episodic chapter in the life of George Sand, filled with confrontations and meetings, all tinged with emotion at fever pitch. Don't miss emancipated George, facing the revolt of her children--Maurice against Chopin, and Solange against her. Stay tuned for George's reunions with actress Marie Doval at the end of her tether, and with husband Casimir grown older with a bit of grace. The hour also offers an intriguing glimpse of Chopin, musical genius, but social aristocrat. Altogether, a beautifully played and absorbing hour. 9 p.m. PBS. OfD » PRE-CONVENTION SPECIAL.
