It is also the name of a mixed quartet which will perform as part of the Charleston Chamber Music Society's 34th season. The five-event season begins Oct. 4 with a performance by the Ensemble for Early Music. Ail chamber music events begin at 8:30 p.m. in Morris Harvey College auditorium. The Ensemble for Early Music is composed of eight performers who specialize in music of the 14th through 17th centuries. Part of the ensemble is the Wendy Hilton Dance Company, who interpret dances of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. * * * TASHI WILL perform Nov. 15. The quartet, which has been heralded in concert halls from New York to San Francisco, includes pianist Peter Serkin, violinist Ida Kavafian, cellist Fred Sherry and clarinetist Richard Stoltzman. Violinist Sergiu Luca will present a program of music of the Romantic period by Dvorak and Busoni, in a Feb. 28,1976 concert. Luca will be accompanied by pianist David Golub. An unusual feature of the performance is Luca's use of the Baroque bow and violin and his explanation of the differences between Baroque and modern bows. The Concord String Quartet, winners of the Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 1972, will perform March 20. The quartet has performed extensively throughout Europe and the U. S. and are established as popular recording artists. * * * THE SEASON will close May 1 with a performance by the 12-member Boston Symphony Chamber Players. The ensemble is composed of a dozen principal players from the Boston orchestra's string, woodwind and brass sections. SCHOOL RENTAL PLAN ON BAND INSTRUMENTS - REPAIR SERVICE To Kick Off Boat Excursion WINFIELD - Two Putnam County bands will kick off excursion boat rides on the Gatewal Clipper Aug. 26 as part of the week-long celebration of the fifth annual Sternwheel Regatta. Winfield High School's band members will board the paddlewheel showboat at the old ferry crossing in Winfield at noon. The band will perform as the boat travels to the Charleston levee. There, it will be met by Poca High's band, directed by Harold Gothard. The two bands will play for 30 minutes for the crowd gathered at the levee. Gershwin, Opera Mix Eyed for Tour The popular songs of George Gershwin and operatic highlights from "Don Giovanni" will be special attractions of the 1975 Charleston Symphony Orchestra tour through Southern West Virginia. Baritone John Taylor of Fairmont and soprano Deborah Lucas of Charleston will be soloists for the symphony tour. Tour director Carole Carter said five engagements are scheduled between Sept. 13 and Oct. 12. The following orchestra concerts are planned: 8 p.m. and Sept. 13 at Logan Memorial Field House; 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at Raleigh County Armory in Beckley; 8 p.m. Sept. 20 at Braxton County Armory in Sutton; 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg; and 3 p.m. Oct. 12 at Bluefield High School Auditorium. The fall schedule is the fourth Southern West Virginia tour undertaken by the Charleston Symphony.
