Special report probes Panama Canal conflict APPLE'S WAY. (Repeat). Here's an episode on the importance of having a grandfather around the house. Reluctant to come and live with his son's family, Grandfather learns he's needed, particularly by young Patricia, who shares her love for horses with the old man. A predictable crisis erupts when ^Patricia's bronco is hurt, but Grandpa figures out a solution "for the essential happy ending. 7:30 p.m. CBS. WORLD QF DISNEY. "The Not So Lonely Light- ·house. Keeper." (Repeat). . Grand footage of sand-flapping" sea elephants, body- surfing sea lions, a stumbling pelican, and shore birds, enhance Jack Couffer's 1967 show about a peg- legged lighthouse keeper, stationed on a tiny island off the California coast. Automation threatens the old man's job, and he takes a tearful leave of his sea-going friends. Couffer's sensitive camera work makes the show a must for all beach lovers. 7:30 p ; m. NBC. O© ®(g)© MASTERPIECE THEATER. "Upstairs, Downstairs." (Repeat). A bit on the melodramatic side, full of plot and heavy on emo-- tions, but so well played it's luscious: Sarah is pregnant again, ever ready with a tall tale about the" man involved, but finally settled down with Thomas after numerous threats'and obstacles/Sarah is, as usual, believable in her happiness and her distress,, but the characters of Thomas, Lady ;Margery, : and Mr. Bellamy are explored in depth; with Mr. Bellamy coming out the winner. In- 'te'resting,.9 p. hi. ETV. NBC NEWS PRESENTS: Special Edition. Two reports on contemporary dilemmas are featured in this edition of NBC's magazine-of-the- air. One explores a.domestic problem of near crisis proportion concerning the lack of adequate health care provided for the American Indian. It has been compounded by the end of the draft, and die withdrawal of its doctors from the Indian Health Service; plus the impoundment of funds designated for the Service by the . Administration. The other looks into a'major conflict brewing over the control of the Panama Canal, which has been under U. S. jurisdiction since 1903. Tune in for an examination of the complaints made by the Panamanians against the Americans who run the Zone and live there; and the conflicting points of view between Secretary Henry Kissinger, who supports turning .the jurisdiction of the : £an,al over to Panama, and Selj Strom Thurmond who (is vehemently .opposed. lO'Sp. m., NBC.
