SCOTTDALE, June 11.--The last meeting until September of the Civic club was held last evening at the Y. 1L C. A. Mrs. 0. I. Hess presided. Mrs. Minnie Warnock, chairman of ' the philanthropic committee, gave an excellent report of the work that the committee had done during the past year. James S. Beacom of Greensburg, chairman of the exemption boards of eight counties, delivered the address ol the evening. He tofd of the seriousness ot the food problem and how the war garden was all right and how each war garden would help, but the most 'important part, he said, was looking out · for the boys over there. He made a plea for the farmers' sons who want to join the colors rather than be exempted in the draft, but in most cases, he said, there is aa old man and a young one on tho.faym; and when the young one is · taken away the farm is crippled. Mr. Beacom stated that for the ambitious young tanner boy to stay home as a duty when he wanted to go and fight put him in the real patriot .class. Jfo Fajblic Service. "The Elks will not have public Flag Day observance. Efforts to secure a speaker ware unavailing and at a meeting it was decided that the service shall be in the lodge. I Gl»s* in Food. A report was made yesterday for the first time of glass being found in food. On Sunday morning when a family sat down to breakfast at which shredded wheat biscuit was being served, after the sugar had been put on crystals of glass iibout half the size of a wheat grain were found in large ijuaatities. The rematader of the biscuits are beins; crushed and the sugar very carefully sifted'in an e'ffort to see whether the glass was in the biscuit or the sugar. An effort will be made through the grocer to see it something definite can' be learned about the shipping. Father Itayal Given Farewell. Last evening In the Knights of Columbus hall the parishioners of St. John's Roman Catholic church met to give a farewell to Rev. H. J. Duval, who has been assistant at the, local · parish for some time. A purse of nearly $500 was given to ather Duval as a token of appreciation. Rev. M. A. Lamoing expressed his regnjt at losing lather Duval, and' some of his non-Catholic friends lie had made during his stay here also expressed regret at losing him. Rev. Duval left this morning to take up the pastorate of St. Peter's Roman Catholic church at Tarentum. Infant Dies. Funeral services for Eugene Allen Felgar, the seven-montus-old child of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Felgar, were held at Wesley chapel on Sunday afternoon, in charge ot Rev. R. A. Risley. Interment was made in Wesley, chapel cemetery. William Percy Over. Robert P. Percy has received a card telling of the safe arrival overseas of his brother, William Percy, who is a member of the 320th ilachine Gun Company. A Sale for "Women.
