Presiding Presiding over the 97th Grand Communication of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Cmnd Lodge of H est I'irginia June 27-29 in H eirton u-ill be J. Hobart Hale, the grand master from Boomer, Fayetle County. Rail hod Bike Ride Today Bicycle enthusiasts are in- viteti to participate in a ride on! the abandoned New York Central railroad bed along Elk River north of Charleston today! The outing is being sponsored by the Appalachian chapter of the Sierra Club to demonstrate the suitability of the roadbed for a bicycle trail, according to club spokesman Mik'e Vaughn. The ride will begin at 1 p.m. at the foot of Mink Shoals Hill, nine tenths of a mile north of the intersection of 1-77 and U.S. 119. Riders will pump their way nine and one-half miles to Blue Creek, where they will be provided transportation back to their cars. Vaughan said the trail is rough in spots and he advised riders not to bring delicate racing bikes. Anyone is invited to participate, regardless of whether they belong to the Sierra Club. Embattled Ohio Girls State Ends COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Buckeye Girls State wound up its activities Saturday after a week plagued with criticism of its policies regarding participation by handicapped women. Fred Milligan, president of the Ohio Information Committee, spoke to the girls Saturday on the Ohio Constitution. The rest of the day was engaged in citizenship activities, including mock courts, commission meetings and a citizens panel. About 35 persons staged a "symbolic walk" on the Capital University campus Friday in protest of an American Legion Auxiliary policy of prohibiting participation in the event by severely handicapped girls. The protestors, about half of whom were handicapped, marched with signs in front of a hall where Girls State activities were in session. Members of the Columbus Board of Education met with auxiliary officials Friday to discuss a proposal to withhold support from the event because of the policy. A board spokesman said the board was satisfied with auxiliary explanations and saw no reason to withhold its support. The auxiliary has said it prohibits participation only on the basis of a doctor's report or a report from a school teacher that a girl cannot keep pace with Girls State activities. K M 1 L 4s i« Churches' Reunion "·'·}· Launched LOUISVILLE, Ky. lAP) -Southern Presbyterians Saturday launched a process de.- · signed to reunite them with, a '. sister denomination of the North from which they divid : ed in the Civil War. The governing assembly of -: the Presbyterian Church U.S. (Southern) authorized a preli- ··, minary churchwide study of a J draft plan for merger with the United Presbyterian Church;,; a national body: v . '·'·''··'·?· ",'·', The plan was developed' over a five-year period by a joint committee. In the closing session of the" week-long a s s e m b l y , the- Southern chruch delegates' acted without dissent to relay the plan to local churches for two years of intensive study. · Finally, the plan will go back before the assembly for' a legislative decision, likely-in- 1976. Similar procedures are due in the United Presbyterian;Church, whose concurrent- meeting here goes on through" next Wednesday. ' ·' It has about 2.5 million members through the country while the Southern branch has* 900,000 in 16 Southern and btir-" der states. The Southern church's as-' sembly had been expected Ur act on the union plan Friday but lengthy discussion over other matters delayed the decision until this morning: · ' Chinese Leaders Attacked Agence France-Presse PEKING - Violent poster attacks appeared here Satur- · day against Communist party", leaders in the South China · province of Kiangsi. The posters were the mo.st spectacular reported to appear in Peking so far on the situation in the Chinese prov.- inces during the current ideo-- logical struggle within China. Other posters had previous- - ly reproduced criticisms of party officials in several fac : lories and communes in Hunan, Szechwan, Heilungkiang and Shantung provinces. Saturday's posters were prompted by five workers from Kiangsi province who . came to Peking to present their complaints in the form of an open "letter to Chair : man Mao Tse-tung and the ' leaders of the party's central organs." They state that this year their factory has been able to produce only 3.6 per cent of its. state-assigned quota, due to "internal struggles among, factions." ' They accuse their leaders of having used part of the factory's labor force and production facilities "to manufacture arms with a view to-a counterrevolutionary ~oup 1 d'etat."
