Television Movies "THE GAMES.," (1970) **%, 8 p.m., OCD. Hugh Atkinson's best- selling novel about the grueling preparation of the long distance runners for the Olympics makes an interesting if episodic drama. The four focal runners are British Michael Crawford, American Ryan O'Neal, Australian Athol Compton, and Czech Charles Aznavour . . . . . and the action dwells on their invi- dual stores, culminating with the big event... the 26-mile marathon. The photography of the competition is very well-handled and the story holds up. . "BORN FREE." (1966) ***Vk/8 p.m., QD3). A treat"for the whole family. If you don't particulary care for films about animals, you'll be won over by the touching tale of Elsa, the lion cub raised in captivity, who then must learn to fend for herself in the jungle wilds of Kenya. »·· "THE UNDERGROUND MAN," (1974) **Vz, 9 p.m., O CB ® ® ®. Author Ross MacDonald's shabby, slightly anachronistic private eye creation. Lew Archer, is given a TV movie treatment here with Peter Graves handling the sleuthing chores. Although Graves might be miscast,, the tale provides Archer with a lot of loose, easy banter to create a solid impression, and mystery fans should go with the endless plot complications, which start with a son looking for his father, and move through wild ax murders and adultery. "THE BLUE KNIGHT," (1975) **Vi, 9:30 p.m., 0CD- George Kennedy plays Joseph Wambaugh's Bumper Morgan (a role beautifully acted by William Holden in the earlier TV mini-series) with his big- bear warmth. Shootoiits, chases and all that Hollywood jazz are missing, as Bumper tracks down a cop killer while makirfg human contact on the streeet. CLOSE UP. A look at the auto industry which is the number one industry in the U.S. This will be an examination of how decisions have been made, and are being made today, by Detroit -- regarding production of small cars, as well as actions on cleaner more economical engines, and on passenger safety -and their effect on all of us. 10 p.m. ABC.QD3) MATII«2:15 EVE. 7:30-9:10 America's nost-huggable hero.
