:-- August 10, 1975 Suiufov Ctariesfc* AesJ Vkginw ---- *jr ? · I*' £ · . .··» DISTINCTIVE Layout for Week's House Is Excitingly Different By Andy Lang The Atiociated Prett An excitingly different yet distinctively functional interior is masked by the pleasant traditional facade of this modest ranch. A close examination of the exterior shows that it, too, has a character of its own. * * * THERE IS an apparent absence of a garage, which actually is at the rear. And there are some interesting indentations at the sides. These indentations not only give the house a shape roughly in the form of an H, but create sheltered patios within the dimensions, add light and privacy, and enable more complete utilization of the lot. The rear location of the garage permits car washing, garden tinkering, home repairing, etc., more removed from the street, but what is most distinctive, it permits direct access to a rear kitchen and utility area without crossing through the rooms. ' This is part of a distinctive traffic pattern created by architect Jerold L. Axelrod to make this floor plan function so well. * * * A SWEEPING portico provides charm and shelter to the front. Inside the front entrance a dramatic, seemingly spacious, interior unfolds. A cathedral ceiling living room, which features a front bay window, brick fireplace and sliding doors to a private patio, is focus of the adult entertaining section. An elegant dining room, also with a soaring cathedral ceiling and sliding doors to the same private patio, adjoins the living room. Rather than" being separated by walls Fayette Bookmobile are Scheduled from its adjacent rooms, the'dining room is defined by several tall decorative columns, creating a rather regal setting. * * * THE LOCATION of the dining room can best be described as a "bridge" between the formal and informal areas. The family room is located to the rear of the dining room. It, too features a cathedral ceiling and sliding glass doors, which in this instance lead to the rear patio. * * » THE SLOPED ceiling of the family room extends into the adjacent U-shaped kitchen. Features of the kitchen include a rear window, door to the rear yard, plenty of cabinets, modest breakfast table space on the garage wall, and ready access to the garage, utility area, bath, etc. The house includes three bedrooms and two full baths. * * * THE MASTER bedroom suite includes a walk-in closet and a full bath with a large square tub and a sloped ceiling bedroom with a front bay window. Its most exciting feature is its private, sheltered atrium-like patio which is reached by sliding glass doors from both the bedroom and bath. Shrubbery or fencing on the one open side will fully enclose this outdoor space and insure its total privacy. Design R-128 includes a one car garage as basic and a slab floor. However, a two- car garage and a full basement are available and are included in the working drawings. STUDY PLAN COUPON You can get a study plan for The.
