August 10,1975 Guests in City for Weekend Bridals , The fellowship hall of the Emmanuel Baptist Church will be the site of a reception from 8 to 10 p.m. Tuesday honoring the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar A. McCandless of Bona Vista Drive. They were married in Beaver Dam. Ky.. by the Rev. E. D. ilestone Near 8 Ryan on Aug. 12. 1925. She is the former Elizabeth Danks of Rockport. Ky. He has been an insurance agent in Charleston for 40 years. They are parents of a son, Edgar D. McCandless of McKeesport, Pa. They have three grandsons. The bride was guest of honor at showers and luncheons given by Mrs. E. V. Grace and Mrs. G. C. Robert, by Mrs. James J. Walker, Mrs. Sheldon Kingston, by Mrs. William S. Baldwin and Mrs. William H. Steed, and by Mrs. William Rossman. Mrs. Hunter Boggs and Mrs. T. P. Mantz were hostesses for a brunch. Dr. and Mrs. William B. Rossman here hosts for the rehearsal dinner at Berry Hills Country Club. Edmund Burt Welch, son of Dr. and Mrs. J. Edmund Welch of Smith Road has been named legislative aide to Congress- man Walter Jones, Dem., N.C. He has a law degree from the University of North Carolina and is married to the former Tricia Harness of Raleigh, N.C. Prenuptial activities honoring Debra Jo Abernathy and Roger Allen Crowder, who · were married on Saturday, include showers given by Cindy Shrewsbury and Sharon Crowder, by Barbara Waldon and Judv Galloway and the rehearsal dinner for which the bridegroom's mother. Mrs. Annie Lou Crowder, was hostess. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. Shegi- ko Miller of Okinawa, and Charlotte, N.C.. Jimmy, Johnny and Kin Miller, Lloyd A. Miller, Jerry and Jeremy Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Blackwelder. all of Charlotte, Donald M. Tringh and Patrick and Patricia M. Dixon of Saigon, Vietnam, Mr. and Mrs. William Reynolds and Nancy Adams of Stuart, Va., and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Spence and son, Gene, of Atlanta. Ga. W. M. Maliory Sr. of South Charleston was honored on his 78th birthday with a su- prise party at his home given by his SODS and daughters. Entertainment was provided by Randy Maliory and the Country Overtones. Seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren attended. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Kelley and family of Oakwood Road returned on Saturday from a vacation at Myrtle Beach. S.C. Their daughter, Cathy, a student at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, joined her family at Myrtle Beach and returned home with them for a short visit. An interior design major. Miss Kelly will study in Europe later this year. She is a dean's list student. Two new officers were named at the Aug. 2 meeting of the Kanawha Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Walter L. Spearman was named historian. She is presently state DAR treasurer. Mrs. Asa Maness was named librarian. She is a 50-year member. The meeting was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hale of Oakridge Drive. It was a picnic and planning meeting. Central theme will be the Bicentennial Year observance.
