Scene from "The Golden Voyage of Sinhail." next attraction at the Virginian. Question Box Q. -- After seeing the gor- geovs "EvU Kiievel" star, Sam Elliot, I think the movie version is lousy now, and George Hamilton really takes a back seat to Elliot. I hope the "Evel Knievel" special becomes a series soon. I will watch it faithfully - E.G., Philadelphia, Pa. A. -- The three networks - ABC, CBS, and NBC have announced their new fall schedules and, alas, "EVel Knievel" is not among the new shows. Sam Elliot will probably pop up as a guest star in some of the shows next season. SINCE 1926 Young Bros. QUARRIER ' DINER A Shrimp Cocktail-'/2 Lb. Filet--Choice of Pot. Bread SO00 Butter ** 'Masterpiece Theater'lineup set] By Jay Fredericks Fans of "Upstairs'Down- .; stairs," the Emmy winning British series which, closed" thislyear's "Masterpiece Theater' 1 series on PBS will be ,Kap]py to learn that 13 new episodes of "Upstairs Downstairs" are scheduled for next season. And .those who admired Lord 'Peter Wimsey, who starred in a couple of miniseries within the. Masterpiece series, also should be delighted with the news that Lord Peter will solve two more mysteries next fall-- "Murder Must Advertise" and 'Jhe Nine Tailors." In . addition to excellent acting, the Wimsey episodes were notable for costuming-and scene design. The Masterpiece season will be rounded out with four episodes of something called "Country Matters" and six hours of "Games Of Love and Death," dramatizations of the short stories of the Viennese playwright and npvelist Arthur Schnitzler. ·The" order of appearance for ail this is first, beginning on Oct. 6, "Murder Must Advertise;" second, the "Upstairs. Downstairs" segments; third, "Country Matters;" f o u r t h , the - Schnitzler stories and, finally; the season closer will be the second Wimsey, "The Nine Tailors." Consistently, through "Elizabeth R," and "Tom Brown's Schooldays," and , "Upstairs Downstairs" and ; Lord Peter, "Masterpiece r " Theater" has proved itself far and away the best dramatic series on television-either commercial or public--and it looks like another good season for "Masterpiece" viewers. I have this plan, see. My plan is to go out into thfe woods and carefully plant a species of some sort of man eating flora. Then I will lie in wait and pretty soon, no doubt, Ewell Gib- bo.ns will come skipping along the forest path, gaily stripping off twigs and leaves and stuffing them into his mouth. Then, just as he is staring into the television camera and saying how much this mulch reminds him of Grape Nuts Flakes, the man eating plant will rear up, open its giant maw andCRUNCH! _ There goes Ewell. Maybe we can get the man-eating plant to look'into the camera and tell us how Ewell is its back to nature breakfast. · . A sharp eyed viewer has noted that when, during the opening credits, the front of the Archie Bunker house is shown on,"All In The,Fami; ly," it plainly has the entrance door between two windows. Yet, when the interior of the house is shown, there is only, one window and the door is over at the side of the living room. In the space where the other window would have to be, there is a closet and a hall tree. » I would like to say a few nice words about the Dr. I Pepper commercials which were the best things about the recent Emmy awards show. Both Dr. Pepper and 7-Up have shown imagination and humor in their television advertising and I'd like them to know that I, for one. appreciate it. I also appreciate the Subaru automobile ad where you keep hearing the woman saying. "We're lost, we're lost" and the car winds up parked on"a"'ycllow brick road as Dorothy, the Cowardly Liori, the Tin Woodman and the Scarecrow come skipping along and the woman's voice demands, at the fadeout, "Admit it-we're lost." »· Speaking of the Emmy show, it was. practically great theater when compared to the hour that immediately preceded it. This was a show called "The Bluffers" and it was headed by Bob Hope and David -Niven, among many others. It also starred, as many Hope shows do, a laugh track that went into hysterics whenever any one said "Hello." It was terrible. At the end of the show, the members of the cast made a pitch for viewers to call or write in and demand that the_ program be turned into a series. To date, according to information in Variety, there have been a grand total of 50 calls--35 for and 15 against. Make .that 16 against, fellows. A rose by any other name, or no matter how you slice it, boys, it's still baloney: ABC is calling its summer repeats, z"encore telecasts."
